D s les ann es 1950, ces derni res utilisent le graphisme et d veloppent un langage associant des repr sentations symboliques pour mettre en avant des indices visuels qui signalent leur pr sence et leurs engagements envers un ensemble de principes, d'identit s et de valeurs partag s. Ce langage visuel est marqu la fois par la lutte et la c l bration, par l'agitation et le compromis. Outil de r sistance mais aussi de fiert , le graphisme LGBTQI promeut galement une forme alternative de collectivit . Par leur mat rialit , composition, typographie, it ration et leur langage, les graphistes identifient et dirigent leurs messages vers des publics particuliers. Le livre et l'exposition ont pour ambition de s'int resser aux expressions graphiques LGBTQI en reconstruisant travers ce langage visuel une partie de l'histoire du mouvement ou de la vie de ces communaut s (en Belgique et Bruxelles). D clin e autour d'une dizaine de th mes qui s'articulent autour d'une narration et d'un contexte, l'exposition s'envisage en filigrane autour de trois axes : le militantisme, la f te et la vie quotidienne. L' volution et la transformation des identit s et des d bats travers le temps viendront alimenter une approche qui se veut transversale. Comment ces d bats voluent-ils ? Comment ces identit s se (re)d finissent-elles ? En quoi les d bats d'hier ne sont pas ceux d'aujourd'hui et inversement ? De 1953 avec la naissance du mouvement sous l'impulsion de Suzan Daniel1 aujourd'hui, ces questions qui forment la trame narrative de l'exposition seront abord es travers le design graphique des associations et groupes LGBTQI. Un projet d velopp par le Design Museum Brussels et la Structure de recherche interdisciplinaire sur le genre, l' galit et la sexualit (STRIGES) de l'ULB avec le soutien des Archives de la Ville de Bruxelles et le Fonds Suzan Daniel l'Amsab-ISG.1 Suzan Daniel, n e Suzanne De Pues Bruxelles en 1918 et d c d e en 2007, est une militante pour les droits homosexuels en Belgique. Elle a t une des instauratrices du mouvement LGBT en Belgique. En 1953, elle fonde le Centre culturel de Belgique (CCB), premier groupe d' mancipation des gays et lesbiennes belges. Un an plus tard, elle quitte la direction pour cause de sexisme et se retire du milieu LGBT, tombant ensuite dans l'oubli. En 1996, le centre belge d'archives et de documentation LGBT, fond la m me ann e, est nomm en son hommage. ----- Een project ontwikkeld door het Design Museum Brussels en de Interdisciplinaire Onderzoek structuur voor Gender, Gelijkheid en Seksualiteit (STRIGES) van de ULB met de steun van het Archief van de Stad Brussel en het Fonds Suzan Daniel van Amsab -ISG.1 Suzan Daniel, geboren Suzanne De Pues in Brussel in 1918 en stierf in 2007, was een activist voor homorechten in Belgi . Ze was een van de oprichters van de LGBT-beweging in Belgi . In 1953 richtte ze het Cultureel Centrum van Belgi (CCB) op, de eerste groep voor de emancipatie van Belgische homo's en lesbiennes. Een jaar later verliet ze het management vanwege seksisme en trok ze zich terug uit de LGBT-gemeenschap, waarna ze in de vergetelheid raakte. In 1996 werd het Belgische centrum voor LGBT-archieven en -documentatie, opgericht in hetzelfde jaar, naar zijn eerbetoon genoemd.‎

‎New York: Harper & Brothers 1939. 290 pp 8 7/8" H. Dark blue cloth spine with gilt lettering/decoration and corners light blue paper-covered boards and endpapers. B&w photographs by Paul Braun Arthur Mooney and others. Inscribed on half title page: "Norah and Chew Atkins / their book inscribed in / memory of old times by / Hulbert Footner / Jan 22nd 1940". Also included an autograph letter signed by Footner on Charlesgift notepaper referring to a possible visit and mentioning that "For August everything too is uncertain. I have a lot of theatrical business coming to a head and it may be necessary for me to be in New York at that time." Footner uses small x's instead of periods in the text. The envelope is postmarked Solomons MD 1916. During the 1916-17 season Footner's play "Shirley Kaye" had a reasonably successful run at the Hudson Theatre New York and the proceeds helped in the restoration of Charles' Gift. Also laid in at front the previously folded chipped and wrinkled/creased front panel and flap from the original dust jacket. Hulbert Footner 1879-1944 explored large areas of Northern Canada by canoe in his early years and produced works of fiction and non-fiction based on his experiences. He was also a playwright and in later life a successful mystery writer creating such characters as Madame Rosika Storey. This semi-autobiographical book details the purchase and restoration of an historic house but also looks back into the history of Calvert County and recounts the people and events that played a part in Footner's life for over thirty years. Minor wrinkle at top of spine light browning and scattered tiny/small foxing marks on edges of text block - mainly on top and top corner a few small foxing marks on preliminary pages and on the last few blank papes a few tiny dents on bottom of text block. .
