Raysse is a major artist of the contemporary scene. While his portraits of women of the sixties are become icons and its allegorical frescoes surprise again, Dilecta Publishing has released a book presenting a selection of his drawings, from its beginnings to the present. Still little known, these works on paper are fraught with the same audacity and impertinence that his paintings, eroticism haloed and mythologies updated. One hundred selected drawings constitute this publication, showing the practice of drawing, not as one preparatory step to his paint job, but especially as plastics experiences, very free, allowing him to explore techniques as diverse as mine graphite, pastel or watercolor. After literary studies, in 1959 Martial Raysse made his first assemblages by enclosing small toys and toiletries in transparent boxes, in order to foreground, unfussily, the charge of emotion and visual intensity these cold little objects can hold. In 1960, his Visual Hygiene series of household implements hung around a long-handled scrubbing brush, or sunscreen products and beach toys crowned by an advertising dummy, ushered into the realm of art a world that is new, antiseptic and pure , that of the supermarkets and advertising for the consumer society. This reappropriation of objects that are supremely banal aligned him with the experiments of Arman, Spoerri and Tinguely, with whom he founded the New Realists group in 1960. Soon regarded as the young French artist who came closest to American Pop Art, between 1961 in 1966 Raysse participated in numerous artistic events throughout Europe and the United States. After 1968, Raysse underwent a shift which led him to make a sudden break with the circuit of dealers and galleries, and to withdraw to the south of France. Within the community he formed with a number of friends, he made works using craft techniques, and subsequently returned to the most traditional modes of painting. ‎Cet ouvrage s'adresse surtout aux personnes, Architectes, Ingénieurs et Constructeurs, qui désirent étudier les questions de résistance des matériaux et de stabilité des constructions sans avoir recours au calcul infinitésimal. C'est à la mécanique la plus élémentaire, ainsi qu'à la géométrie, que, sous forme d'épures de Statique graphique, j'emprunte les solutions de toutes les questions, même de celles qui sont les plus ardues, telles que le calcul des poutres continues, le calcul des arcs et la détermination de la poussée des terres. Un coup d'œil jeté sur la table des matières suffira pour faire comprendre le plan de cet ouvrage. En réalité il est le développement du cours de Stabilité des constructions que, depuis 1878, mon maître et ami M. Emile Trélat m'a fait l'honneur de me confier à l’école spéciale d'Architecture en remplacement du regretté de Dion. Il reproduit aussi les leçons sur le même sujet que, à titre de suppléant de M. Trélat et, ensuite, comme titulaire du cours de constructions civiles, j'ai faites à plusieurs reprises au Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers. Si j'insiste sur les origines de cet ouvrage c'est pour convaincre celui qui tentera de le lire qu'il aura sous les yeux un livre élémentaire dans sa forme quoique assez complet dans ses développements, un livre qui n'aura été publié qu'après avoir, auprès de nombreux élèves, subi la sanction de l'enseignement et avoir, comme conséquence de ces épreuves répétées, éprouvé des modifications et, surtout, des simplifications nombreuses. Il est sans doute bien prétentieux à moi de faire paraître un traité de Stabilité des Constructions alors qu'il existe déjà les ouvrages de Bresse, de Collignon, de Rouché, de Koklin, de Brune et de tant d'autres Ingénieurs, alors que M. Maurice Lévy a fait bénéficier les constructeurs de son admirable traité de Statique graphique, véritable monument dans lequel on trouve tout ce qui a été dit aussi bien que tout ce qui sera dit, pendant longtemps encore, sur cette...‎

‎This book, which is being published to mark the opening of the museum, unveils an ensemble of 77 important works from the collection held by the Royal Museum for Central Africa. A range of academics, conservators, and experts on African art provides an examination and analysis of each of these pieces. Many of the works brought together here can be found in the gallery assigned to the temporary exhibition Unrivalled Art. Others can be encountered in the rooms devoted to the permanent exhibition. And some of the works afford a glimpse behind the scenes at the RMCA, in the hushed atmosphere of the depots, about which the general public is largely unaware. Researcher and curator Julien Volper has selected pieces that come not only from the Congo, but also from other countries, such as Angola or Gabon. Sometimes they are physical testaments to lost cultures dating from the eighth to tenth century, or even dating to tens of thousands of years ago! However, most of the works belong to the more recent period of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. All of these masks, statuettes, ivories, weapons, receptacles and other artefacts express a genuine creativity - a creativity described so aptly in 1919 by the theorist Vladimir Markov: '[.] this [African] art is unrivalled anywhere else in the world.'‎

Hage Chahine, 471. Numa Broc, Asie, pp. 28-29.) Reliure en demi veau fauve, dos lisse orné de filets et fleurons dorés, quelques frottements sur le dos, un mors restauré en tête, pièce de titre de maroquin vert, plats de papier marbré, gardes et contreplats de papier à la cuve, tranches rouges, reliure de l'époque, Orientaliste et archéologue, le comte de Bertou explora la Palestine en 1838 avec pour mission de vérifier l'hypothèse d'un ancien écoulement de la mer Morte vers la mer Rouge. Parti de Beyrouth le 2 mars 1838, il gagna Jérusalem par Nazareth, fixa l'altitude de Jéricho à 273 m et celle de la mer Morte à 406 m. Il se rendit ensuite à Hébron et entreprit, malgré l'hostilité des tribus arabes, de parcourir la dépression qui unit le lac Asphaltite à Akaba. Bertou y parvint le 8 avril et, malgré la destruction de son baromètre, il put affirmer que le niveau de la mer Morte était bien inférieur à celui de la mer Rouge. He Created Posters For Germany During World War I. After The War He Created Illustrations For Advertising And Design Firms And Newspapers. He Immigrated To The United States In 1933. Gods and heroes were represented as statues, on vase and wall paintings, on temples, on sarcophagi as well as in other media. This book provides a concise introduction to the interpretation of the images of Greek myths. Its main aim is to make the pictorial versions of the myths comprehensible on their own terms. Ancient artists were well aware of the potential - but also the limitations - of these 'silent' images and of the strategies that made them 'speak' to the audience/viewer. The book explains the theoretical and methodological issues at stake and discusses in detail a number of case studies.
