‎Summary John Wyclif (d. 1384), famous Oxford philosopher-theologian and controversialist, was posthumously condemned as a heretic at the Council of Constance in 1415. Wyclif's influence was pan-European and had a particular impact on Prague, where Jan Hus, from Charles University, was his avowed disciple and the leader of a dissident reformist movement. Hus, condemned to the stake at Constance, gathered around him a prolific circle of disciples who changed the landscape of late medieval religion and literature in Bohemia, just as Wyclif's own followers had done in England. Both thinkers, and the movements associated with them, played a crucial role in the transformation of later medieval European thought, in particular through a radically enlarged role of textual production in the vernaculars (especially Middle English and Old Czech), as well as in Latin, in the philosophical, theological, and ecclesiological realms. This interdisciplinary volume of essays brings together cutting-edge research from scholars working in these and contiguous fields and asks fundamental questions about the methods that informed Wycliffite and Hussite writings and those by their interlocutors and opponents. ‎Karel Fonteyne heeft een uitgebreid ?uvre opgebouwd tijdens een carri re van meer dan 50 jaar in de kunst- en modefotografie. Eind jaren 1960, 1970 was hij een pionier in de wereld van de kunstfotografie. Gedurende meer dan 15 jaar was Fonteyne internationaal actief binnen de modesc ne zowel in Antwerpen met vroege samenwerkingen met Margiela, Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck en Dirk Bikkembergs, als internationaal, met opdrachten voor prestigieuze magazines als Vogue, Interview, Bazaar, Marie-Claire of Brutus Magazine in Japan. In 1996 beslist hij om te stoppen met modefotografie en zich uitsluitend te richten op zijn werk als hedendaags kunstenaar. Voor de groepsexpo in de Handelsbeurs is een selectie gemaakt van enkele van zijn iconische modereeksen voor Vogue France en n beeld gerealiseerd voor Giorgio Armani. De verhalende beelden van Karel Fonteyne overstijgen de klassieke fotografie waarbij de kunstenaar een tijdloze, soms bevreemdende en esoterische atmosfeer cre ert. Zijn werk roept paradoxale gevoelens op en confronteert ons met kosmische en mystieke elementen, onze interne leefwereld gekoppeld aan vormen van eenzaamheid of isolatie, veelal gecompenseerd door een parfum van humor of surrealisme. Karel Fonteyne has built up an extensive oeuvre during a career spanning more than 50 years in art and fashion photography. In the late 1960s and 1970s he was a pioneer in the world of art photography. For more than 15 years, Fonteyne was internationally active within the fashion scene, both in Antwerp with early collaborations with Margiela, Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck and Dirk Bikkembergs, as well as internationally, with commissions for prestigious magazines such as Vogue, Interview, Bazaar, Marie-Claire or Brutus Magazine in Japan. In 1996 he decided to quit fashion photography and focus exclusively on his work as a contemporary artist. For the group exhibition in the Handelsbeurs, a selection was made of some of his iconic fashion series for Vogue France and one image was realized for Giorgio Armani. Karel Fonteyne's narrative images transcend classical photography in which the artist creates a timeless, sometimes alienating and esoteric atmosphere. His work evokes paradoxical feelings and confronts us with cosmic and mystical elements, our internal world linked to forms of loneliness or isolation, often offset by a perfume of humor or surrealism.‎
