They can be read and re-read, annotated, supplemented, dismembered, restored and physically moved, even more than once. The volume 'Uses and Reuses of Medieval Manuscript Books. Southern Italy. Latin Manuscripts' investigates these multiple lives through an interdisciplinary approach that embraces codicology, paleography, philology, and art history. With a focus on book circulation in Latin Southern Italy, the volume brings together 14 contributions written in three languages. Through rich and diverse case studies, the authors offer a new perspective on the history of the book. Divided into three thematic sections ('Uses and Reuses of Classical Texts, 'Manuscripts en route', 'Material and Immaterial Reuses'), the book explores the 'marginal' traces left by readers, the philological reception of texts, material transformations, and the journeys of codices. The volume reconstructs through these lenses the influence of manuscripts on medieval intellectual activity and offers insights that extend from the specific context of southern Italy to broader geographical and diachronic scales. Artists growing up during this time were heavily influenced by this cultural atmosphere. The 1980s were a significant decade politically, marked by the African Famine and the end of the Cold War, which was signified by the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Neo Geo and The Pictures Generation became leading art movements during the decade, alongside Neo-Expressionism which became well-known in Germany, France and Italy (where it was known as Transavanguardia). Artists such as Anselm Kiefer, J rg Immendorf, Enzo Cucchi, Francesco Clemente and Julian Schnabel were leading artists of the era, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, who established the street art and graffiti movements.‎

Zo cre ert ze een heel eigen universum, waarin de tegenstellingen tussen chaos en orde, logica en mystiek, erotiek en technologie opgeheven worden. //// The idiosyncratic universe of artist Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven This book offers an overview of the long-standing collaboration between the artist Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven and Zeno X Gallery. Central to the publication are the thirteen solo exhibitions which Van Kerckhoven has presented at the gallery from the 1980s to the present day. Installation views highlight some of the important museum exhibitions and remarkable projects for which the artist was invited, both at home and abroad. The publication also includes numerous photographs, newspaper clippings, invitation cards and reviews from her extensive archive. Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven (b. 1951) has been working on a body of work consisting of drawings, paintings, collages, films and installations since the 1980s. She manipulates images depicting women ? first manually and later also digitally ? in order to question the objectification of women and the prevailing systems of power. In an intuitive and unconventional way, she explores subjects such as science, language and artificial intelligence, creating a universe of her own in which the oppositions between chaos and order, logic and mysticism, eroticism and technology are abolished.‎
