‎À travers de nombreux schémas et reproductions, l'auteur présente l'évolution des fenêtres et appuis au cours des siècles. Cet ouvrage ne se veut ni technique ni artistique, mais plutôt une synthèse des deux ; en fait, une vulgarisation pour permettre une approche et une réflexion sur ces balcons qui nous entourent et que l'homme de la rue qui les côtoie quotidiennement voit sans y prêter forcément attention, soit par habitude ou par manque d'observation. Il n'a pas été non plus question de faire ici quelque chose d'exhaustif car ceci relèverait d'un travail considérable, serait prétentieux et de plus inutile. A quoi bon faire un relevé similaire, voisin, uniquement pour un détail si celui-ci n'est pas essentiel. C'est parfois le cas, mais en l'occurrence, il ne s'agit que de montrer une progression, chaînon par chaînon, dans la suite logique des styles et expliquer les passages en douceur lorsqu'ils ne sont pas le fait d'un brusque changement dû à une découverte, un coup d'état, ou tout autre événement propre à bouleverser les habitudes ou les goûts. À l'inverse, il se peut que, malgré les recherches faites, quelques particularités régionales ou locales, voire mêmes des appuis, uniques et dignes d'intérêt, faits par des artisans locaux aient été oubliés. Que ceux qui en auraient connaissance se disent qu'i1s ont découvert ou qu'ils possèdent "l'oiseau rare" et y trouvent là un réconfort. Le champ d'investigation a volontairement été réduit à la France ; cependant, les origines, qui, on l'imagine facilement, ne peuvent être passées sous silence, en ont fait franchir les frontières, tout comme les influences étrangères, les mouvements d'artistes à travers l'Europe et les influences françaises chez nos voisins. Le choix du dessin aura été préféré, dans bien des cas à la photographie. Il se trouve qu'un croquis coté et détaillé permet une approche plus technique, alors qu'un document photographique apporte plutôt une vision artistique. C'est pourquoi le lecteur trouvera les deux modes d'illustration au texte ; à moins que l'on ne considère l'inverse dans un ouvrage où le visuel est le meilleur moyen de communiquer sa pensée le verbe n'étant que le lien entre les images. ‎Summary The Belgian Dominican friar Antoninus Hendrik Thomas published a critical reconstruction of the earliest Constitutions of the Dominican Order. Met werk van onder meer Rineke Dijkstra, Desir e Dolron, Dustin Thierry, Erwin Olaf, Stephan Vanfleteren, Anton Corbijn en Viviane Sassen.------What happens when new masters pick up where old masters left off? On the occasion of the bicentenary of the Mauritshuis in The Hague, the museum asked contemporary photographers to reflect on the permanent collection. Which masters capture their imagination? How do they interpret 17th-century art? The result: 16 new works by 16 contemporary photographs, including Erwin Olaf, Rineke Dijkstra, Anton Corbijn and Stephan Vanfleteren, one for each room in the Mauritshuis. The new works will be displayed alongside the 17th-century works that inspired them and will be put equally next to each other in this luxury book. The photographers were entirely free to select what they wanted to work with. For some it was a painting, for another a detail from a painting, or even an entire room in the museum. Expect to see original and surprising reflections on 17th-century art: counterparts, commentaries, alternatives. None of the photographs is a remake of the original painting. One thing is certain: you will never look at Rembrandt, Vermeer or Steen in the same way.
