Laodikeia ist sowohl von den ehemaligen Dörfern und heutigen Stadtteilen Eskihisar, Goncali und Bozburun als auch auf drei Seiten von den Flüssen Asopos, <admos und Lykos begrenzt. Die antike Stadt liegt 6 km nördlich der Stadt Denizli. Hatte man früher angenommen, die Gründung ginge auf das 3- Jh. v. Chr. zurück, kam mit den Grabungsarbeiten eine Geschichte, die 5500 v. Chr. begann, zutage. In zahlreichen Erdbeben wurde Laodikeia zerstört, aber immer wieder aufgebaut. Nach dem verheerenden Erdbeben in der Regierungszeit von Focas (602-610) verließen die Überlebenden die Stadt jedoch endgültig und siedelten in Kaleici (heute in Denizli) und Hisarköy, am nördlichen Fuße des Salbakos (Babadag). Ihre erste Blütezeit erlebte die Stadt während der römischen Kaiserzeit, ihre zweite in der Spätantike, zwischen dem vierten und sechsten Jahrhundert, mit der Verbreitung des Christentums. Die Stadt wurde bereits früh Bischofssitz, da sie mit dem Titel eine der ersten Sieben Kirchen in Anatolien ausgezeichnet worden war. Dass sich mit dem Christentum der Lebensstil in Laodikea veränderte, insbesondere ab dem vierten Jahrhundert, nachdem die Stadt ein Wallfahrtsort geworden war, ist durch Ausgrabungen belegt. Ausdruck hierfür ist eine neue sakrale Architektur. In dieser Zeit wurden Teile von Peristylhäuser in Andachtsräme verwandelt und es entstand die Tradition der Familienkapellen. In dieser Arbeit wird zunächst knapp über die Verbreitung des Christentums in der Region berichtet und die Kirchenbauten werden im Überblick vorgestellt. Die im Jahr 2010 ausgegrabene Kirche von Laodikeia bildet dabei den Schwerpunkt. Über sie wird detailliert informiert, wobei sowohl auf ihre besondere Architektur mit Brunnen, Pastophoria, Synthronon, Ambo, Bema, Altar, Taufbecken und Korridore als auch auf die Ausschmückung der Wände mit Fresken und die der Böden mit Opus sectile und Mosaiken eingegangen wird. Darüber hinaus werden die Besonderheiten des Schutzdaches und der Besucherlaufsteg erläutert.‎

Since 2003 excavations and restoration work at Laodikeia on the Lykos have been Undertaken by the author on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Pamukkale University. The work conducted has shown that the history of Laodikeia, which is located within the borders of Eskihisar, Goncali and Bozburun neighbourhoods (former villages) and surrounded by rivers, namely Asopos, Kadmos, and Lykos, on three sides 6 km the north of Denizli, goes back to 5500s BC, not to the third century BC as was formerly thought. The city experienced numerous earthquakes, some very devastating, but always rebuilt; however, the earthquake in the reign of Focas (r. 602-610) razed her to the ground; the site was abandoned and the survivors settled at Kaleig of Denizli and Hisarkoy on the northern foots of Salbakos (Babadag). The city of Laodikeia had her high times during the Roman Imperial period and Late Antiquity when Christianity spread from the fourth to the sixth century. As the city was one of the first Seven Churches she became a metropolitan see quite early. Evidence uncovered indicates that the lifestyle of the city changed with Christianity and the city became a venue of pilgrimage as of the fourth century. With the spread of churches as architectural monuments across the city it is observed that some rooms in the houses with peristyle courts were converted to oratories building up a tradition of family chapels. This short work first tells briefly about the spread of Christianity in the region and churches in the city. This book's main focus is the Church of Laodikeia uncovered in 2010; therefore, you will find detailed information on its architecture, fountains, pastophoria, synthronon, ambo, bema, altar, baptistery and the corridor leading to it, frescoes, opus sectile flooring, and mosaics and the dating based on excavation finds. Furthermore, the protective roof project and the steel-and-glass catwalk for visitors are presented comprehensively.‎

‎UN DES 100 EXEMPLAIRES NUMÉROTÉS ÉTABLI À LA MANIÈRE D'UNE SOBRE RELIURE DE LA RENAISSANCE PAR MARIUS MICHEL Autobiographie de lorfèvre et sculpteur florentin Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571) traduite de litalien par Léopold Laclanché avec des notes d'Enrico Franco. L'ouvrage est illustré de 9 eaux-fortes par Frédéric Auguste Laguillermie et de reproductions in-texte (réalisées par chromolithographie à l'or, argent et bronze) des oeuvres de Cellini. Un des 100 exemplaires numérotés, ici un des 80 exemplaires sur Whatman (curieusement numéroté 3) après 20 exemplaires sur Japon. L'illustration de ces exemplaires est d'après nos recherches très hétérogène, et ne semble pas correspondre à l'annonce de mise en vente, reprise par Vicaire, qui signale des exemplaires sur Japon avec 3 suites et des exemplaires sur Whatman avec 2 (les états et papiers ne sont pas précisés). Le présent exemplaire est enrichi de trois états du portrait de l'auteur (avant toute lettre sur Japon fort, sur Japon et sur vergé), pour les 8 autres hors-texte de deux états (sur Japon fort avant toute lettre et sur Japon avec signature à la pointe), et pour les 15 bandeaux et culs de lampe de deux états (en noir sur Chine appliqué sur Chine, et reproduit par la chromolithographie à lor, argent et bronze sur Japon fort). Absence du tirage sur Chine, non relié, pour un cul-de-lampe (livre deuxième) et un bandeau (livre septième). L'exemplaire comporte également un tirage sur Chine appliqué sur Chine de la vignette du dos de la couverture. Soit 48 illustrations ajoutées. Le présent exemplaire contiendrait donc la suite des hors-texte et des vignettes avant toute lettre sur Japon, seules premières épreuves, dont il n'aurait été tiré que 50 exemplaires pour M. Conquet. Dun caractère impétueux qui lui valut le surnom de maledetto fiorentino (maudit florentin), Cellini suscita autant ladmiration (il eut pour protecteurs Clément VII, Paul III et François Ier) que lanimosité de ses commanditaires et confrères. Dans ce récit, composé entre 1558 et 1567, le fiorentino brosse une peinture de lEurope de la Renaissance tout en revenant sur les épisodes les plus rocambolesques de sa vie : exil de Florence, défense du Château de Saint-Ange lors du Sac de Rome, emprisonnement, évasion, meurtre dun rival... Nombre des pièces réalisées par Cellini sont aujourdhui perdues. Il laisse cependant plusieurs sculptures emblématiques de la Renaissance artistique tel que le Persée de bronze de la Loggia dei Lanzi à Florence, ainsi que quelques travaux dorfèvrerie, dont la salière « Neptune et Cybèle » réalisée pour François Ier, conservée au Kunsthistorisches Museum de Vienne. Frédéric Auguste Laguillermie (Paris : 1841-1934), élève de Flameng et de Bouguereau, débute au Salon de 1863. Fondateur de la Société artistique des aquafortistes français, il grave d'après Antonello de Messine, Velasquez, Ribera et d'après les maîtres modernes. Comme peintre, il réalise surtout des portraits. Ses voyages d'études le mènent à Madrid, Rome, ou encore Athènes. Il obtient le prix de Rome en 1866. Exemplaire bien établi par Marius-Michel (Henri-François-Victor Marius Michel, 1846-1925). En 1876, Marius-Michel ouvre avec son père, le doreur Jean Michel (dit lui aussi Marius-Michel !) un atelier de reliure au 15 rue du Four (Paris). Lauréat du Grand Prix de lExposition Universelle 1900, chevalier de la Légion dHonneur, Marius-Michel est principalement connu pour ses reliures à décor. Il publia notamment La reliure française depuis linvention de limprimerie (1881) et Lornementation de la reliure moderne (1889). La présente traduction de la Vita di Benvenuto Cellini avait paru pour la première fois chez Garnier en 1846. History of Istanbul University (Dar'ül-fünûn Fakültesi). Istanbul Üniversitesi tarihi. Professor Cemil Bilsel, (1879-1949), was a Turkish lawyer, academic, and politician. He was also the former Rector of the University of Istanbul (1934-1943). Bilsel was born in 1879 in the city of Damascus, in Ottoman Syria, into a family of Turkish origin. In 1903 he graduated from his studies in law, and between 1908-1914 and 1921-1925, Birsel entered the State Public Law Course at the Law Department of the Darülfünun-i Istanbul. In 1925 he became one of the first faculty members of the Law School of Ankara University and served as a Professor of Public Law until 1934. Thereafter, Bilsel became the rector of Istanbul University and remained in this post until his retirement in 1943. He also became a national parliament member and an international representative of Turkey in global diplomatic forums. In 1948 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in medicine by the University of Toulouse. This book is an early printed on history of Istanbul University.‎
