‎Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd er in Nederland weinig gebouwd, afgezien van verdedigingswerken. Daardoor wordt deze periode in veel architectuurgeschiedenissen min of meer overgeslagen. Dat betekent echter niet dat er niets gebeurde. De Duitse bezettingsmacht installeerde de Nederlandsche Kultuurkamer, die onder andere de opdracht kreeg om de architectuur op nationaalsocialistische leest te schoeien. Het ging daarbij niet alleen om de ideologische aspecten van het vak maar ook om de praktische, zodat de Bond van Nederlandse Architecten opgeheven zou kunnen worden. In het kielzog van de machtsstrijd die zich ontspon, ontstonden verschillende ideeen over een nieuwe architectuur. Bouwkunst en de Nieuwe Orde richt zich op architecten die werden aangeklaagd, en vaak veroordeeld, wegens collaboratie. Net als alle andere Nederlanders konden zij worden berecht via het Bijzonder Strafrecht. Voor ?lichtere? gevallen werd een Ereraad voor Architectuur opgericht, waarin vakgenoten het gedrag van collega?s moesten beoordelen. Hoewel dit werk van naming en shaming achteraf alom als een mislukking werd beschouwd, hebben de uitspraken grote invloed gehad op de beeldvorming over de betrokkenen. De reputaties van een hele generatie architecten werden erdoor gered of gebroken.‎

‎Publication at the occasion of the re-opening of the museum Constantin Meunier. This museum is located in Ixelles in the house-cum-studio of artist, painter, sculptor and draughtsman Constantin Meunier (1831-1905). The items on display trace more specifically the evolution of the master between 1875 and 1905, this "second life" in his own words, during which his Realist talent focused more on the social and industrial aspects of Belgium, first through painting and drawing and then, from 1885 onwards, with his return to sculpture to become one of the greatest artists of the genre. Paintings like The Broken Pot are echoed by important sculptures like The Hammerer, a whole people of plaster and bronze that deeply marked his day and continued to influence Realist art well into the first decades of the 20th century. HISTORY OF THE COLLECTION Constantin Meunier (1831-1905) had this beautiful housecum-studio built towards the end of his life. Sheltering an extensive collection of over 700 works, the house was acquired by the Belgian state in 1936 and opened to the public in 1939. Attached to the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, and subsequently renovated, it has since 1986 presented a selection of about 150 works and documents.‎

‎Summary This study offers a novel paradigm for explaining the late-medieval Anglo-Latin verse, by analyzing the development of the writings of the English poet John Gower (ca. 1330-1408), who made major contributions to English- and French-language poetry, in addition to being the pre-eminent Latin poet of the ?Age of Chaucer.? In addition to translating amongst the three languages in which he worked, Gower invented a plain style for Latin ?public poetry? that was like his better-known English-language Confessio amantis in emphasizing regular prosodic simplicity; and his plain style was emulated by other Anglo-Latin poets. Gower's Latin public poetry contradicts the other kinds of Latin verse in use in England at the time: on the one hand, the demotic accentual-syllabic rhymed verse in use amongst clerical controversialists and other kinds of social polemicists, characterized by language-mixing and prosodic fluidity within individual poems; and on the other, the hyper-sophisticated poetria nova of the schoolmen. At the end of his career, however, Gower rejected his own plain-style Latin-verse invention to take up instead the late scholastic style, but only at the moment of its decadence, when the humanist neo-classicism that disdained scholasticism would already have begun to arrive in England.‎
