Es stellt ein neues Konzept zur Analyse vormoderner Karte vor und setzt es am Beispiel der sogenannten 'Genuesischen Weltkarte' von 1457 um, einer anonymen, dem nordmediterranen Raum entstammenden Karte, von der weder der genaue Erstellungsort noch der unmittelbare Nutzungskontext bekannt sind. Im ausgehenden Mittelalter besch ftigten sich verschiedenartige Kreise intensiv mit geographischen und kartographischen Fragen. Zus tzlich zu den Zeugnissen gelehrter M nche und Kleriker wird nun das Interesse von weltlichen Gelehrten, F rsten, Notaren, H ndlern, Seefahrern und humanistischen Zirkeln an Karten greifbarer. Angeregt wurde dieses Interesse durch das Anwachsen des Wissens ber die Welt. Lateineurop ische Reisende und Gesandte aus fernen L ndern berichteten ber ihre Erfahrungen aus Asien und Afrika. Fr he Humanisten fanden Handschriften fast vergessener antiker Werke wieder, so dass sich der Blick auf das Autorit tenwissen nderte. Insbesondere die sp testens 1409 fertiggestellte lateinische bersetzung der ?Geographia' des Alexandriner Astronomen Klaudios Ptolemaios machte Furore und wird in der Forschung als Ansto einschneidender Ver nderungen der Kartographie gesehen. Der Abgleich der 'Genuesischen Weltkarte' mit Karten aus ber 130 Archivsignaturen zeigt, dass sie sich in mehrfacher Hinsicht von den blichen Karten des 14./15. Jahrhunderts der nordmediterranen Region abhebt. Ihre Kartenmacher waren keine konventionellen Ersteller von K stenlinienkarten oder Serienkarten. Vielmehr waren sie humanistisch interessiert, mathematisch gebildet und entstammten wahrscheinlich dem Umfeld der Kurie und des Konzils von Ferrara-Florenz (1438-1445). The seven Water Projects ? Christo and Jeanne-Claude?s installations sharing a connection with water ? are considered in further depth. In these projects, from Running Fence, Sonoma and Marin Counties, California (1972-1976) to Over the River, project for the Arkansas River, State of Colorado (dal 1992), the artists worked establishing a close connection with natural, suburban and urban landscapes which all share a relation with water, be it an ocean, a sea, a lake or a river. Among the Water Projects we must mention The Floating Piers, an installation opening June18 to July 3, 2016, which will allow visitors to walk across Lake Iseo and along its shores on a 3-kilometre route. By means of modular floating piers covered in shimmering yellow fabric, the installation will link the town of Sulzano on the lake?s shores, to Monte Isola, also reaching the Island of San Paolo. Every work included in the catalogue will be accompanied by an explanatory text with all the relevant technical and historical information, along with preparatory drawings, collages, scale models, and photographic documentation of the project?s phases of ideation, preparation and realization. The catalogue, besides a rich photographic section, includes an introductory text by Germano Celant and a dialogue between the curator and Christo. They have gone from remote villages in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan, Venezuela, and Nepal to the mountains of Switzerland and metropoles like Hong Kong and Paris, but have also visited the war-torn city of Mosul in Iraq, the border between Mexico and the United States, and the strait of Gibraltar that divides Africa and Europe. The resulting images are standing proof of the seriousness of play and of children?s stunning powers of resilience in the face of conflict. This volume provides a multidisciplinary perspective to the many layers of Children?s Games. It includes an interview with Francis Al s and Rafael Ortega, a series of essays by well-known scholars and art critics, curatorial statements, and a logbook related to the presentation of Children?s Games at the Venice Biennale of 2022.
