Es waren aber nicht seine architektonischen Arbeiten, die meine Aufmerksamkeit erregten, sondern seine Bilder, von denen ich mich tief bewegt und emotional erfasst fühlte. Die erste persönliche Begegnung mit Le Corbusier verlief ganz entgegen meinen Erwartungen. Bekannte hatten ihn mir als verschlossen und abweisend bis zur Arroganz geschildert; der Mensch und Künstler, den ich Mitte August 1958 in seinem Cabanon auf Cap Martin kennenlernte, war zugänglich und aufmerksam, offen und liebenswürdig. Vom ersten Augenblick an stellte sich ein Gefühl von Vertrautheit ein. Ich blieb fünf Tage in Cap Martin, und jeden Tag lud er mich zum Essen ein. In stundenlangen Gesprächen tauschten wir Gedanken und Ideen aus, und ich bekundete ihm meine Begeisterung für seine Malerei. Vor meiner Abreise machte er mir einen Probeabzug der "allegresse" aus der Kupferstichserie "Cinq femmes" (S. 25) zum Geschenk. Ich verliess Cap Martin wie auf Flügeln, im Bewusstsein, dass diese Begegnung meinem Leben eine entscheidende Richtung geben würde. Durch meine Arbeit als Innenarchitektin in meinem Geschäft für Raumgestaltung in Zürich war ich auf Abbildungen der von Le Corbusier bereits 1929 entworfenen Sitzmöbel gestossen. In der Absicht, ihn um die Erlaubnis zu bitten, diese Möbel in Serie produzieren zu dürfen, hatte ich ihn in Südfrankreich besucht. Meine Begeisterung und meine Entschlossenheit, die Möbel zu produzieren, schienen ihn überzeugt zu haben. ? Meine Beobachtungen von Le Corbusiers Arbeitsweise hatten mich immer wieder fasziniert. Einige der Lithografien hatte er zu Beginn schwarzweiss gestaltet. Als ich die Vorlagen sah, äusserte ich gewisse Bedenken, dass mir etwas fehle. Er überlegte kurz und gab mir recht: "Oui, j'aimerais mettre de la couleur." Darauf entfernte er sich, und ich fragte mich, wie er das nun angehen würde. Mit einigen farbigen Papierbogen kam er zurück und riss sie in verschieden grosse Stückchen. Nachdem er die lineare Zeichnung geprüft hatte, schob er das Fetzchen mit dem Daumen über die Komposition, bis es -bestimmt und sicher wie von selbst - seinen Platz fand. Der Kupferstich "allegresse", sein Geschenk, das ich ins Herz geschlossen hatte, brachte mich auf den Gedanken, Le Corbusier zu bitten, Platten für eine neue Kupferstichedition zu gravieren. Ich brachte ihm bei einem meiner Besuche Kupferplatten ins Atelier mit. "Je sais, que vous etiez graveur dans IIndustrie des montres. Je veux vous faire travailler, Monsieur." Er war zuerst erstaunt, dann lächelte er: "Oui, ca me fait plaisir,- je vais vous faire ces planches."
