Grande plaquette in-4 (28,5x23,5cm), couverture imprimée en noir et rempliée, 17 pages, une planche photographique en noir d'une œuvre non titrée de Fautrier* montée sur onglet, cousu dans le corps de l'ouvrage (d'origine donc ) + Quelques opinions de 1929, Œuvres exposées (peintures, sculptures, gravures, dessins). Envoi de Jean Paulhan à Georges Lecomte (janvier 1945) à l'encre de couleur (bleu-vert). * la lithographie "Le Compotier", tirée en couleur par Mourlot, n'apparaît pas dans notre exemplaire. Toutefois, une photographie en noir et blanc s'y trouve, désignant une œuvre que nous n'avons pu identifier, peut-être aujourd'hui disparue ou indécelable (collection privée ?), qui semble s'inscrire dans la période tachiste du peintre et évoquer des fruits ou des feuillages. Quelques toiles connues s'en rapprochent, toutes datées de 1943 (certaines au catalogue de l'exposition) : Le Quartier d'orange (1943, collection particulière), Les Fruits ouverts ou Bol de Fruits (1943, Musée de Sceaux.) , Paysage (Buissons) (1943, collection particulière Cologne) ou encore la Nature morte : Les Pommes à cidre (1943, Musée Reina Sophia à Madrid) et Feuillages (1943). Celle qui lui ressemble le plus par l'esprit est : Les Pommes (Le Jour et la Nuit - 1940), avec cette importante tache noire pour représenter l'obscurité dans laquelle sont plongés les fruits (nous la joignons aux photos du livre). Utilisant une technique mixte, souvent sur papier marouflé, Fautrier poursuivait l'informel depuis les années 20 : ses étranges fruits qui n'en sont plus, qui peuvent aussi bien s'intituler Paysage ou Arbre, ne conservent qu'un contour schématique travaillé au couteau sur un enduit épais et s'éloignent du concret.

China: The Commercial Press c.1926. The Chinese typewriter comes to America A rare surviving example of the brochure issued by China's largest publisher and maker of scientific instruments to accompany its stand at the 1926 Philadelphia Sesqui-Centennial Exposition. Alongside print publications and cutting-edge laboratory equipment the Commercial Press displayed Shu Zhendong's newly invented Chinese typewriter a major advance in the development of modern information technology. The typewriter advertised and pictured on page 56 promises to solve "a serious problem in office administration in China. It is the miraculous achievement of the inventor that although there are 3000 characters in the font yet a typist after the practice of one or two weeks will be able to locate any character instantly." Online records show copies in the City of Philadelphia archives and six other institutions all in the US Library of Congress the Smithsonian Peabody Essex Temple Californian State University Los Angeles and University of Delaware. Octavo. Folding organization chart illustrations some colour in text; text printed within red borders. Original brown silk wrappers purple xianzhuang stitching spine ends capped with blue silk front cover blocked in gilt. Spine ends rubbed couple of faint stains to covers chart creased where sometime incorrectly refolded: near-fine. unknown

PHILADELPHIA. INTERNATIONAL CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION. Group of Six Medals commemorating the Centennial Exhibition. Philadelphia: Ornamental Wood Co. 1876. Hexagon shaped box 7 3/4 x 10 1/4 inches with six medals made of wood. A rare survival and an attractive piece of commemorative advertising. A fine set in its original display case of six medals commemorating a visit to the International Centennial Exhibition at Philadelphia in 1876. The set was als used to advertise the Ornamental Wood Company of Philadelphia which has manufactured the medals using a newly patented process. Two of the medals ha "Patented June 1 1875" stamped beneath the portraits. These medals could purchased separately or as a set in a fitted case in three different sizes. Ornamental Wood Company exhibited in the Machinery Hall where visitors bought these medals as souvenirs. The hexagon shaped box containing tray of blue cardboard with six holes rimm in gold holding the six medals the lid with a fine lithographed "Birds Eye View of the International Exhibition Buildings" published by Breuker and Cassler Philadelphia. The six die-pressed wood medals have a diameter of 2 3/4 inches for four of them and 3 1/3 inches for two of them. The medals are extremely fine the two larger ones show on the obverse the Memorial Hall and the Main Building while the smaller ones depict Independence Hall and portraits of George Washington General Joseph Hawley President of the Centennial Exhibition and Alfred Goshorn Director General and chief organiz of the Centennial Exhibition. All medals are rendered in high relief on the obverse while the reverse has around "The 100th Anniversary of the American Independence 1876" with "Great International Exhibition Fairmont Park Philadelphia 4th of July" in the field. In excellent condition the lithogra a little browned the box outside in plain dark green card board a few nicks but essentially sound. unknown books
