Das Land wird für ihn Rückzugsort und künstlerische Offenbarung. 1948 erwirbt Steisslinger dort Haus und Garten, lässt sich mitreißen von den fremdartigen Eindrücken, der üppigen Vegetation sowie den exotischen Menschen. Von der Vielfalt des Landes mit seiner tropischen Farbigkeit befeuert, malt Steisslinger Bilder, die in ihrer malerischen Freiheit und überbordenden Fülle in der zeitgenössischen Kunst einzigartig sind. Zu Lebzeiten beteiligte sich Fritz Steisslinger zwar an zahlreichen Ausstellungen, doch die erste Werkübersicht kam erst nach seinem Tode zustande. Insbesondere durch Ausstellungen anlässlich des 100. Geburtstages wurde die Öffentlichkeit auf Steisslingers Werke aufmerksam. Neben den plastischen Werken hat Steisslinger 364 Ölgemälde, 494 Aquarelle und Gouachen sowie zahlreiche Skizzen, Zeichnungen und Druckgrafiken hinterlassen. In der Dauerausstellung der Städtischen Galerie Böblingen ist ein Querschnitt durch Steisslingers Schaffen zu sehen. Zahlreiche weitere Werke befinden sich im Fritz-Steisslinger-Haus in Böblingen. Overall condition is very good; sketchbooks with ordinary wear; foxing to just some of the works on watercolor board; a few photographs with edge wear; a large and well-rounded archive fully deserving of proper preservation and study with much to say about the intersections of Victorian landscape art early photography and the working methods and commercial life of husband and wife professional artists. The Stevens were successful artists in Europe and Britain between the later stages of the Victorian era and the early 20th century. They held regular exhibitions of their collaborative landscape studies of the French Riviera Swiss Alps Italian lakes and English countryside. They maintained galleries at Cannes and London and were patronized by European royalty and aristocracy including Tsar Nicholas II and the Empress of Russia. The archive includes a portfolio of 20 watercolor studies and 15 pencil sketches; eight sketchbooks with approximately 100 watercolor or pencil studies; two albums of newspaper exhibition reviews; a file of testimonials documents and letters concerning Russian purchases; printed invitation cards gallery and price references; lists of important patrons; approximately 280 photographs taken by the Stevens mostly silver gelatin prints; and three albumen photographs signed and captioned on the verso "Frank Mason Good." ‎* Clyfford Still (* 30. November 1904 in Grandin, North Dakota; ? 23. Juni 1980 in New York) war ein US-amerikanischer Maler. Er wird der Stilrichtung des Abstrakten Expressionismus zugeordnet. Nach dem Abschluss seines Studiums an der Universität von Spokane im Jahr 1933 unterrichtete er an der Washington State University in Pullman bis zum Jahr 1941 Malerei, Kunstgeschichte und Ästhetik. Mitte der 1930er Jahre hatte Clyfford Still bereits damit begonnen, halb-abstrakte Bilder zu malen, und entwickelte in den Folgejahren seinen Malstil immer weiter in Richtung Abstraktion. Von 1941 bis 1943 arbeitete Clyfford Still in der Rüstungsindustrie in Kalifornien und setzte seine Lehrtätigkeit in den Jahren 1943 bis 1945 in Richmond, Virginia, fort. Danach wechselte er nach New York, wo er mit Jackson Pollock und Mark Rothko Freundschaft schloss. Seine Gemälde, die er mittlerweile im abstrakt expressionistischen Stil malte, wurden erstmals in einer Einzelausstellung in der New Yorker Galerie Art of This Century von Peggy Guggenheim präsentiert. Diese Ausstellung machte Clyfford Still bekannt und berühmt. Seine nächste Lehrtätigkeit führte ihn für die Jahre 1946 bis 1950 nach San Francisco an die Californian School of Fine Arts, welche 1961 in San Francisco Art Institute umbenannt wurde. Danach kehrte er für elf Jahre nach New York zurück, wo er zunehmend isolierter lebte und in den Jahren 1952 bis 1958 sogar alle öffentlichen Ausstellungen seiner Werke ablehnte. Im Jahr 1959 war Clyfford Still dann doch Teilnehmer der documenta II in Kassel. 1961 zog sich der Maler, der als einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter des Abstrakten Expressionismus eingestuft wird, in den US-amerikanischen Bundesstaat Maryland zurück, um in Ruhe, fernab von der Kunstwelt, arbeiten zu können. Ausstellungen seiner Werke lehnte der künstlerische Einzelgänger Still fast durchweg ab, Bildverkäufe reduzierte er auf ein Minimum. Die Aura des Werkes, seine ?lebenspendende Kraft? sah er dadurch gefährdet. So kommt es, dass nur wenige Museen in Europa Werke des Künstlers besitzen. Museum Am 18. November 2011 wurde in Denver, Colorado das vom amerikanischen Architekten Brad Cloepfil entworfene Clyfford Still Museum eröffnet. Zur Finanzierung des Museums versteigerte die Stadt Denver im November 2011 in einer umstrittenen Auktion bei Sotheby?s vier Bilder aus dem Nachlass von Patricia Still, die der Stadt eine Rekordsumme von 114 Millionen Dollar einbrachten. Versteigert wurden außer PH 89 (1949-A.No.1), das den Spitzenpreis von 61,7 Millionen Dollar erlöste, die Bilder PH-351 (1940), PH-584 (1947) und PH-1033 (1976). Das Museum verwaltet den gesamten Nachlass von Clyfford Still, darunter 94 % seines malerischen Gesamtwerks. ‎* Julie Strathmeyer-Wertz (* 22. September 1898 in Dresden; ? 1989 in Stuttgart) war eine deutsche Malerin und Grafikerin. Julie Strathmeyer-Wertz studierte ab 1917 Architektur an der Technischen Hochschule Dresden und Kunst bei Richard Dreher und Hermann Dittrich an der Kunstakademie Dresden. 1921 zog sie nach Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt um. Von 1923 bis 1929 studierte sie bei Arnold Waldschmidt, Alexander Eckener und Heinrich Altherr an der Kunstakademie Stuttgart. 1929 absolvierte sie einen Studienaufenthalt in Berlin. Ab 1931 wirkte Julie Strathmeyer-Wertz als freischaffende Künstlerin. Sie unterhielt ein Atelier im Stuttgarter Malerinnenhaus. 1935 und 1936 hielt sie sich kunstbedingt in Spanien auf. 1939 unternahm sie mit Malschülerinnen eine Studienreise nach Italien. 1940 bis 1944 leistete sie künstlerische Betreuung von Verwundeten in Stuttgarter Lazaretten. 1944 verlor sie durch Kriegseinwirkung ihr künstlerisches Frühwerk. 1947 heiratete sie Hermann Strathmeyer. Von 1964 bis 1972 war Julie Strathmeyer-Wertz zweite Vorsitzende des Stuttgarter Künstlerbundes.
