Various actors having experienced stage debut will then be offered roles of iconic characters from Gothic fantasy literature. This was the case of Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi known worldwide for their interpretations of the monster Frankenstein and Count Dracula.</p><p>Therefore two superstars in both senses of the term who knew to impose at the same time the ‘terror’ gender and illustrate by their subtle play the terror characters as their authors had imagined them. ‎* Carolus Adrianus Maria Thole (20 April 1914 ? 26 March 2000) was a Dutch-Italian painter and illustrator. He was born in Bussum, near Amsterdam, and was educated at State Drawing School of Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum. His first works were for advertisement and publishing companies, but he also painted glasses and walls. In 1958 Thole moved to Milan, Italy, with his wife and four sons. At first he worked for Rizzoli publisher, before passing to Mondadori in 1960. After several covers for various magazines and books, he became renowned for his long work for science fiction magazine Urania, where his deep art culture, taste for surrealism and weird sense of humour could show at their best. For Mondadori he worked to a host of other series, including mysteries and romantic series for women. In 1980s Thole experienced an eye disease that compelled him to reduce his work activity and to leave Urania covers to Vicente Segrelles and Oscar Chichoni. His last work for Urania is for N°1330 of 1998: in the meantime, Thole earned a robust fame as one of the greatest European book cover artists. He worked also for French and German publishers. Thole died in 2000 in Cannobio, a town onto the Lago Maggiore in Northern Italy. (Quelle Wikipedia) ---- Eddy C. Bertin (* 26. Dezember 1944 in Hamburg-Altona; ? 19. Mai 2018)) war ein belgischer Autor von Horror-, Science-Fiction- und Jugendliteratur. Bertin war der Sohn eines belgischen Vaters und einer deutschen Mutter. Er wurde 1944 in Deutschland geboren, aber die Eltern kehrten schon bald nach Belgien zurück. Ende der 1960er Jahre begann er Horrorgeschichten und Science-Fiction zu veröffentlichen. Zu dieser Zeit arbeitete er als Bankangestellter. In den folgenden Jahrzehnten verfasste er eine große Zahl von Kurzgeschichten ? Reclams Science-fiction-Führer spricht von 500 Erzählungen, nachgewiesen sind mindestens 175 ?, die auch ins Englische und Französische sowie in weitere Sprachen übersetzt wurden. Eine relativ kleine Zahl wurde auch ins Deutsche übersetzt. on seinen Horrorgeschichten sind einige dem Cthulhu-Mythos zuzurechnen. Eine davon, Duisternis Is Mijn Naam (1978), ist in der von Edward P. Berglund herausgegebenen Anthologie The Disciples of Cthulhu enthalten, ins Deutsche übersetzt als Cthulhu?s Kinder. Die englische Sammlung The Whispering Horror (2013) enthält weitere Erzählungen Bertins im Stil H. P. Lovecrafts. Zu seinen Science-Fiction-Arbeiten gehört ein Kreis von Texten (Erzählungen, fiktive Sachtexte und Dokumente) in einer von Bertin entwickelten Zukunftswelt, in der die Menschen sich mit Hilfe der Erfindung der Membrane durch Raum und Zeit bewegen können. Als een Eenzame Bloedvogel, die erste Erzählung aus diesem Membran-Universum, erschien 1976. Ein Großteil der Texte aus der Membran-Welt erschien gesammelt in den drei Bänden Eenzame Bloedvogel (1976), De Sluimerende Stranden van de Geest (1981) und Het Blinde Doofstomme Beest op de Kale Berg (1983). Mitte der 1980er wandte sich Bertin der Jugendliteratur zu. Im deutschen Sprachraum ist er hauptsächlich als Autor der Grusel-Jugendbuchreihe um Valentina Hellebel bekannt. Bislang (Mai 2018) sind in der Reihe sieben Romane erschienen, die ersten vier davon in deutscher Übersetzung im Arena-Verlag. 1999 erschien dort auch Magier des Bösen, der die Bände 1 (Valentina und die dreizehnte Nacht) und 2 (Valentina und die blutroten Zimmer) enthält. ‎^* André Thomkins (* 11. August 1930 in Luzern; ? 8. November 1985 in West-Berlin) war ein Schweizer Maler, Zeichner und Dichter. Er lebte ab 1952 in Deutschland und lehrte von 1971 bis 1973 als Professor an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. André Thomkins wurde 1930 als zweites Kind von Frieda Thomkins, geborene Hersperger und dem Architekten John Thomkins in Luzern geboren. Bereits während seiner Schulzeit, die von zahlreichen Krankheiten, bedingt durch einen angeborenen Herzfehler, unterbrochen war, begann er zu zeichnen und interessierte sich für geometrische Konstruktionen. 1947 bis 1949 besuchte André Thomkins die Kunstgewerbeschule in Luzern, wechselt 1950 nach Paris an die Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Dort lernte Thomkins die Bildhauerin und Malerin Eva Schnell kennen. 1952 heirateten die beiden in Rheydt, wo Schnell als Zeichenlehrerin tätig war. Eva Thomkins war ebenfalls bildende Künstlerin sowie Kunstpädagogin und -dozentin.[1] Im selben Jahr wurde der erster Sohn, Oliver, geboren. André Thomkins setzte sich mit dem Surrealismus auseinander, traf auf Paul Gredinger und den Bildhauer, Maler und Zeichner Peter Storrer und erfand seine so genannte »Schwebsel«-Figur. In dieser Zeit lernte Thomkins auch die Künstler Dieter Roth und Daniel Spoerri kennen, mit denen er gemeinsam arbeitete und ausstellte. 1953 erstellte André Thomkins seine ersten Lithografien im Eigendruck. In Ascona kam sein zweiter Sohn, Nicolas auf die Welt, welcher heute als Designer arbeitet. 1954 erfolgte ein Umzug nach Essen, dort 1955 die Geburt des dritten Sohnes Anselm. Hier machte André Thomkins seine ersten Zeitungsüberzeichnungen (Vexierklischees). Er liess sich beim Streichen durch die Oberflächenspannung von Lacken verführen, das war die Entdeckung der Lackskin-Technik und die ersten kleinen ?Lackskins? entstanden. ?Ein Tropfen oder ein zähflüssiger Faden von Lackfarbe fällt auf das Wasser, breitet sich darauf aus und besetzt die Oberfläche. Die Zeichnung, die entsteht, kann fortwährend verändert werden, mit Mitteln, deren Wirkung ein Wechselspiel zwischen künstlichen und natürlichen Kräften auslöst: bläst man auf den Lack, so treibt er auseinander in der gewünschten Richtung, löst sich in Graustufen von photographischer Feinheit auf und suggeriert Plastizität. Mit Tropfen und Faden von Lack, die auf das entstehende Bild geworfen bzw. geführt werden, verändert man die Landschaft [?].? ? André Thomkins 1956 schuf er Miniaturplastiken aus Plastilin und Laubsägeblättern. 1957 entstanden erste Palindrome, Plastilinstempel-Arbeiten und das ?Knopfei? (das Ei mit dem einen angenähten Knopf). Das vierte Kind, seine erste Tochter Jenison, wurde geboren. André Thomkins befasste sich mit den Schriften und der Parapsychologie von Justinus Kerner. ?1960 begegnete er mir zum ersten Mal in der für die Avantgarde der 60er Jahre so bezeichnenden wie programmatischen Anthologie "movens". Er war dort mit dem Entwurf einer "Permanentszene" vertreten, der Vorstellung eines Theaters, in dem die dramatische Kurve des Spiels geschnitten ist, in dem die Elemente des Spiels nichts mimen und dem Erwartungskomplex des Publikums eine absolute Banalität kont[r]astiert wird.? ? Reinhard Döhl: STRATEGY GET ARTS! Eine Erinnerung an André Thomkins 1961 fertigte André Thomkins seine ersten Rollagen-Arbeiten und das Bühnenbild zu Der Hausmeister von Harold Pinter, am Theater am Dom in Köln. Die zweite Tochter Natalie kam zur Welt. Der deutsche Regisseur Carlheinz Caspari und der Schauspieler und Filmemacher Alfred Feussner gründeten in Köln das Labyr, eine bislang unbeschriebene ästhetisch-ethische Denkfigur und Kulturtechnik, die alle bisherigen künstlerischen Modelle an Radikalität überbietet. Thomkins stiess dazu mit vielen Labyr-Aktivität bis 1964/1965. Das Projekt war für ihn von zentraler Bedeutung. 1962 begann Thomkins mit der Lackskin-Serie Die Astronauten und entwarf für das Theater am Dom in Köln das Bühnenbild zu Edward Albees Der amerikanische Traum. 1963 war die Fertigstellung der grossen Lackskins für die Jakobuskirche von Eckhard Schulze-Fielitz aus Stahlrohr und Kunststoff in Düsseldorf-Eller. 1964 schaffte Thomkins die ?Shadowbuttoneggs? (Knopfei-Schatten), studierte 1965 altmeisterliche Maltechniken und arbeitete an miniaturartigen Plastiken aus Ton, die sogenannten ?Keramiktürmchen?. 1966 wurde die renovierten reformierten Kirche in Sursee mit zehn Glasfenstern von André Thomkis eingeweiht. 1967 schuf er zwei grosse Glasfenster für die Schule in Köln-Mülheim, im Zuge der Umbauten durch den Architekt Erich Schneider-Wessling, heute die André-Thomkins-Schule. Zusammen mit Dieter Roth und Daniel Spoerri schuf Thomkins die sogenannte Eat Art, (?Ess-Kunst?), Kunstwerke und Aktionen, die mit dem Thema Essen in Beziehung stehen. 1968 wurde das ?Restaurant der Sieben Sinne? von Daniel Spoerri eröffnet. An der Aussenfassade hingen die Palindrom-Schilder von André Thomkins, welche sich heute im Skulpturengarten Il Giardino bei Seggiano befinden. Über die Jahre hatte Thomkins über hundert Palindrome, mit vor- und rückwärts zu lesenden Wörtern oder Wortfolgen, in Form von blauen Straßenschildern mit weißer Schrift kreiert: ?STRATEGY: GET ARTS? ?oh cet écho!? ?nie reime, da kann akademie rein? 1969 entstanden diverse Gummiobjekte, wie die Serie Rocker. Sein jüngster Sohn Anselm starb an den Folgen eines Verkehrsunfalls, gefolgt von 1970 seinem ersten Sohn Oliver, welcher an den Folgen eines Motorradunfalls starb. 1970 entstanden erste Paraphrasen nach Werken von Jacques Callot, Johann Heinrich Füssli, Arnold Böcklin und 1971 erste Drucke auf eigener Radierpresse. Von 1971 bis 1973 lehrte André Thomkins Malerei und Grafik an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Er verließ diese, um sich wieder der eigenen Arbeit widmen zu können. 1972 entwarf er das Bühnenbild zu Tristan Tzaras Gasherz und Illustrationen zum Spielplanheft des Schauspielhauses Düsseldorf. In der Zeit 1971 bis 1975 reiste Thomkins viel. In den folgenden Jahren erlitt er immer wieder Herzanfälle und lehnte 1975 das Angebot einer Professur an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste München ab. 1976 verfolgte er eine Drucktätigkeit in der Radierwerkstatt Peter Kneubühlers in Zürich, ein Projekt des Druckgrafik-Verzeichnisses mit dem Galeristen Pablo Stähli und gemeinsame Pantographenzeichnungen mit Robert Filliou. 1978 siedelte André Thomkins von Essen nach Zürich um und mietete sich im Kulturzentrum ?Rote Fabrik? ein Atelier. 1979 beteiligte er sich an Konzerten wie Performance 79 in der Städtischen Galerie im Lenbachhaus in München und Selten gehörte Musik für Tastinstrumente in Hamburg. 1981 nahm er die Tonbandaufnahmen zu seiner Schallplatte ?bösendorfer? mit Dieter Roth in Reykjavík auf. In Flüeli-Ranft baute er ein 25 Meter langes Xylophon in freier Landschaft, das durch Werfen kleiner Holzwürfel erklingt. Nach langer Pause fertigte André Thomkins wieder Lackskins. 1982 erhielt er ein DAAD-Stipendium in Berlin und gab sein Atelier in der Roten Fabrik auf. 1983 liess Thomkins seine alten ?Labyrinth?-Idee wiederaufleben und begann in der Luzerner Nationalbank-Niederlassung am Wandbild Labyrinth zu arbeiten. Er erlitt im Oktober einen Herzanfall und zog im November zu seiner Freundin Elle Förster nach München. Dort nahm er 1984 den Lehrauftrag für Malerei und Grafik nebst Atelier an der Kunstakademie München annahm. Am 9. November starb André Thomkins in Berlin an Herzversagen. André und Eva Thomkins sind auf dem Siepenfriedhof in Essen beigesetzt. Auf dem Grabstein befindet sich ein Palindrom des Künstlers. Thomkins malte und zeichnete ironisch-phantastisch-gegenständliche Bilder, die lautmalerische Titel trugen. Seine Arbeiten waren vom Surrealismus und Dadaismus beeinflusst. Trotz seiner vielfältigen künstlerischen Tätigkeiten wurde Thomkins vor allem als Zeichner geschätzt und wahrgenommen, während seine experimentelle Praxis im Hintergrund stand. Aus Experimenten mit den unterschiedlichsten Materialien entstanden seine humorvoll-fantastischen Werke von gedanklicher Tiefe und spielerisch-assoziativer Qualität ? thematisch verschlungen und überraschend. Alltägliche Materialien wie Gummi, Illustriertenfotos und -papier, Lebensmittel und Fundstücke prägten sein Werk ebenso wie tradierte künstlerische Mittel und Techniken. Erst vor kurzem erfolgte im Kontext neuer künstlerischer Strategien und insbesondere durch seine Werkgruppe der ?Lackskins? eine Wiederentdeckung des zweifachen documenta-Teilnehmers (5/1972 und 6/1977).
