This is a very good 5 volume hardcover set (complete) three volumes with dustwrappers, two without. All volumes very clean inside, no marks. The off white dustwrappers are tanned and have a few stains to the spine of the last volume only and several closed edge tears. Two volumes have faint tan stains to top page-edge not visible internally. All text in Russian. The set is edited by V. F. Ryndin. All drawings by V.I. Kozlinskii. Additional editing and text by Elena Kurbatova and Elizaveta Berman. This set covers Russian costume design for staged productions from 1750 to 1917. In other words from the beginning of Russian drama to the Russian Revolution. All volumes are illustrated with drawings similar to fashion drawings in French and German periodicals from the late 19th century. All volumes have some color drawings as well as black & white. All volumes also have some technical details to guide the costume designers making period costumes: some of the illustrations are like pattern designs for tailors. A spectacular resource. 12" high X 9" wide, 170 & 182 & 182 & 182 & 222 pages. The volumes were all published between 1960 and 1972. Volume 1: 1750-1830, volume 2: 1830-1850, volume 3: 1850-1870, volume 4: 1870-1890, volume 5: 1890-1917. Foreign buyers should expect extra postage. These books will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and sent with tracking.

Sabatino Moscati nacque a Roma il 22 novembre 1922. Impossibilitato ad accedere all'università statale a causa delle leggi discriminatorie verso gli ebrei, conseguì la licenza del Pontificio istituto biblico nel 1943, laureandosi nel 1945 con una tesi in cui ebbe relatore Francesco Gabrieli. Quest’ultimo, il gesuita tedesco Alfred Pohl, assirologo del Pontificio istituto, Giorgio Levi Della Vida e – indirettamente – Giuseppe Tucci formarono il gruppo di maestri cui Moscati si sentì legato da un particolare vincolo scientifico e umano. Tra gli anni Quaranta e Cinquanta, sotto la guida di Gabrieli, Moscati scrisse diversi saggi storici sul mondo arabo tra il periodo ommayade e abbaside, raccolti molti anni dopo nel volume “Dal regno arabo all'impero musulmano (1992)”. Parallelamente a questo filone di studi iniziò a pubblicare una serie di contributi specialistici nell’ambito della filologia e della linguistica semitiche, mantenendo al contempo un costante impegno nella Bibliographie sémitique. A partire dagli anni Sessanta, Moscati orientò le sue ricerche sulla componente fenicia della civiltà mediterranea, estendendole al mondo punico e ad altri aspetti della storia e dell’archeologia del Mediterraneo antico. Il saggio “La questione fenicia (1963)”, nel quale affrontava le origini della civiltà fenicia in tutte le sue connotazioni agli inizi dell’età del Ferro, contiene in nuce i temi principali dei suoi studi successivi e della sua scuola, in una filiera dove si collocano “Problematica della civiltà fenicia (1974)” e “La questione fenicia: venti anni dopo (1984)”. Membro effettivo della Pontificia accademia di archeologia, fu altresì socio corrispondente e poi socio nazionale, rispettivamente nel 1959 e nel 1968, dell’Accademia nazionale dei Lincei, di cui fu vicepresidente dal 1991 al 1994 e presidente dal 1994 al 1997.
