From dust jacket: Originally Thunderbird was designed to be small and racy with a unique look and personality that would set it apart from its contemporaries. Although never intended to be a sports ccar it was only 52.1†high and its 102 inch wheelbase as an inch and a half shorter than that of a Model A! Luxurious enough for the most discriminating buyer the 1955 model offered plush vinyl upholstery “Astra-Dial†control panel adjustable steering wheel tachometer and clock. Yet with a 292 cubic inch V-8 engine rated at 198 horsepower four barrel carburetor and dual exhuasts it was high-spirited enough for any enthusiast. The car was recognised immediately as a breakthrough in automotive engineering and design and soon developed a dedicated owner body. Although the original two-seated Thunderbird was manufactured for only three years it was so advanced in concept that tis influence in the automobile industry is still being felt. “Classic†when used to describe cars usually means elegance crisp styling and the finest standard of excellence in coachwork and refinements. It also generally means “Antique†since most car lovers begin collecting them no sooner than 30 years after the end of production. The two-passenger Thunderbird was a notable exception. From Introduction: The accurate identification of seeds has always been problematical and difficult but not entirely impossible. Seeds should not be considered entirely featureless for there are often many reliable differences in their morphology and anatomy. Furthermore seed characters are highly stable and conservative and therefore have considerable diagnostic value. Many seeds have easily recognizable familiar characteristics. The problem of positive identification becomes more acute however at generic and species levels. The need for accurate seed identification is aposite to many branches and fields of the biological sciences e.g. agriculture agronomy biochemistry forestry genetics pharmacognosy plant systematics seed analysis wildlife biology and others. James Herriot writes an introduction to this volume where he says he came to love is cartoon and then read the manuscript of this book. "The mixture if incomparably rich. Birds and bulls horses sheep and cats. Dogs cows monkeys mules foxes bears and lions. I cannot name them all but Bob Miller has treated them all.He can do just the same with words as he had done with pictures." Bound in green cloth spine lettering black. A very fine copy as new copy with dust jacket. . Story of this Boston seafarer and captain of the ship Mercury who beginning in 1803 traded between Alaska China and illegally California. Foreigners were not allowed by the California Spanish government to trade in California. Eayrs was caught his ship and goods confiscated jailed and released after eleven months. He converted to Catholicism married and spent most of the next forty years in Guadalajara Mexico. All the while Eayrs wrote dozens of letters to the Mexican authorities in an attempt to gain compensation for his ship and cargo. Finally in 1842 a U.S.-Mexican commission determined that the Mexican government should pay Eayrs $96998. including interest. . Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation hardcover books
