The locomotives featured included an experimental large Passenger Compound Locomotive the Mogul Compound Freight Locomotive for the Columbus Hocking Valley & Toledo Railway; a Freight Locomotive and Tender for the Cincinnati Hamilton & Dayton RR as well as a narrow gauge four-wheel saddle tank locomotive engine. A wonderful copy of this lovely book with exquisite plates after Grandville. <br /> <br /> This posthumously published work Grandville died on March 17 1847 was originally issued in fifty parts the first part appearing in September 1849. "The compositions of this 'last fairy-tale' brilliantly engraved on steel by Charles Geoffroy and delicately colored form a fitting memorial to Grandville.The pattern which he follows is similar to that of Les fleurs animées. Nearly every plate has its beautiful lady clad in white and adorned with stars looming in the sky with varied scenes of earthly life below her. These designs Grandville's tranquil refuge from the turmoil that beset his mind are as charming as they are mysterious. A spectacular binding on a beautifully printed book.<br /> <br /> Luís Vaz de Camoens c. 1524-1580 often Camoens is lauded as Portugal's most significant poet. A prolific writer of both epic and lyrical verse he ranks him amongst the other European literary greats including Dante Shakespeare or Milton. Despite his fame surprisingly little can be confirmed about his life resulting in "successive biographers have woven the few concrete facts known about Camões's life into a bewildering complexity of fantasy and theory that is unsupported by concrete documentary evidence" Britanica. The first edition of this very scarce satirical poem surrounding the follies and decadence of society loosely based on Horace's satires. The first edition. Very scarce work.Disbound. Written anonymously this satire is attributed to English playwright poet and minister James Miller. Mostly known for his comedies on stage Miller became recognised as a writer of wit and intelligent parody. 'Seasonable Reproof a Satire In the Manner of Horace' was based on the extravagences and vices of the day very loosely based on Horace's satires III and IV of Book I. With sections of Latin written on the facing pages. Interestingly there is one passage dedicated to Fielding reading 'F-----g' who yesterday appear'd so rough Clad in course Frize and plaister'd down with Snuff'. Disbound. Externally wraps are bright with the odd mark. Small puncture holes to gutter. Rubbing to backstrip with remnants of leather and thread. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Good L. Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing. Lite Beer from Miller Pays Tribute to the Heritage and Traditions of Black America
Milwaukee Wi 1985. Very good. 45 rpm record in printed sleeve. Minor edge wear. A rare music single with instrumental B-side issued by the Miller Brewing Company in celebration of Black History Month in 1985. The front side prints the title and first verse of the lyrics of the song; the verso explains the motivation behind the record's release: "'Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing' was written by the noted Black poet and civil rights leader James Weldon Johnson and was set to music by his brother Jay R. Johnson actor-musician. Originally intended for use in a program given by a group of Jacksonville Florida schoolchildren to celebrate Lincoln's birthday its words convey a sense of birthright and heritage. Often referred to as the 'Black National Anthem' it is sung at various public gatherings." The artists who recorded the present version of the song are a veritable Hall of Fame of soul and rhythm-and-blues music in the latter 20th century: Al Green Deniece Williams Patti Austin Roberta Flack Melba Moore and Deborah McDuffie who also produced the song at the Mingo-Jones advertising agency. unknown
