Reunion in Barcelona.
Northwood :: Scorpion Press 1959. 2nd Printing of the First Trade Edition. A Near Fine copy in cream paper wraps. This is one of 500 copies only. This 31 page letter to Alfred Perles is here published separately from Aller Retour New York. In 1953 Miller at the top of his literary acclaim stopped off in Barcelona to visit an old friend--Alfred Perles. Perles was part of Miller's inner circle of friends in Paris between 1930 and 1938. In the intervening years the two friends had dramatic life changes and their "reunion" provided them the opportunity to remember the good days in Paris and savour the current world they were living in. 'Reunion In Barcelona' in a nutshell is a meeting in a little-known city between two writers who according to their own accounts spent the best part of their time laughing their heads of. Miller, Henry
Selected Prose. Vol. 1
London: MacGibbon & Kee 1965 8vo 22.5 cm 560 pp. Publisher's cloth and dust jacket dj slightly dusted. Inscribed by Henry Miller to the Polish translator Zygmunt Łanowski 9/25/65. From the blurb: "This is the first of two volumes of prose much of which has never been published here. Besides his major novels and travel writings Miller has written a great deal of excellent shrewd funny smaller pieces: biographical critical reminiscent. This volume has been selected from such works as 'The Cosmological Eye' 'Remember to Remember' 'Sand Still Like the Humming-Bird' etc. The collection is a convincing demonstration in its own right of the width and grasp of Miller's mind; as a stylist he has been one of the liberators of this century and it is a never-failing pleasure to catch the nuances of so original and humane a voice."
