KELLOGG JH. J. H.
Rational Hydrotherapy: A Manual of the Physiological and Therapeutic Effects of Hydriatic Procedures and the Technique of Their Application in the Treatment of Disease
Battle Creek: Modern Medicine Pub. Co 1923. Hardcover. Small 4to. Quarter black calf and burgundy cloth gilt spine. xxxi 1265pp. Numerous illustrations and line drawings some color. Good plus. Spine leather rather cracked and slightly chipped at head and tail but durable and with gilt lettering bright and legible; front hinge bears older black cloth book tape mend that extends slightly onto right edge of spine -- decent and fairly discreet. Tight fairly attractive later printing "Seventeenth Thousand" of this 1900 text probably the most famous title by the American surgeon and inventor and medical director of the noted Battle Creek Sanitarium. JOHN HARVEY KELLOGG 1852-1943 is best known as co-creator of the corn flake together with younger brother businessman Will Keith Kellogg of W.K. Kellogg Company fame. If you're an Anthony Hopkins fan you'll remember Hopkins' portrayal of the incredibly bizarre J.H. Kellogg whose treatment for most ailments was an enema in the 1994 film "The Road to Wellville." This copy bears the bold ownership signature on front flyleaf of Leone Sweet who was a nurse and a 1903 "graduate" of Kellogg's Battle Creek Sanitarium and president of its alumnae association. Despite spine wear this copy is tight and fairly attractive -- and internally rates a "Near fine" for it's bright clean and quite lovely with superb illustrations. Modern Medicine Pub. Co hardcover
