"Brucemore" the Douglas mansion in Cedar Rapids Iowa was considered "the grandest house west of Chicago" in its day and this handsome volume no doubt graced a shelf in its elegant library; today "Brucemore" operates as a historic home museum. In addition to the ownership signature Irene Douglas pencils the following temperance pledge on a rear inner flyleaf: "Am determined to drink no more whiskey from June 29th 1936 to January 1937.
