"1816 wurde Wertheim Physicus im Spitale der Israeliten zu Wien, wo sich ihm ein ausgebreiteter Wirkungskreis darbot, da es galt, die bis dahin nur wenig benützte Anstalt zu heben.Als er seine Stelle antrat, fand er, daß während eines Jahres nur 67 Patiencen zur Behandlung gekommen waren; im folgenden Jahre bereits stieg die Zahl derselben auf 148, und da den Hilfesuchenden auch Hilfe und liebreiche Behandlung zutheil ward, wuchs sie allmälig bis auf 700 im Jahre.
