[Dali, Salvador]; Cellini, Benvenuto
The Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini
New York: Doubleday & Company 1948 Translated by John Addington Symonds. Illustrated by Salvador Dalí with full-page color plates and black-and-white drawings. First trade edition. Signed by Dalí with an original drawing of a horse on verso of half-title page. Publisher's red cloth with horse illustration in gilt to front board and black label lettered in gilt to spine. Very good with some fading to spine some rubbing to spine label and dimming to spine gilt front board gilt bright and a hint of offsetting to endpapers. Overall an attractive copy scarce signed. The Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini was written by the Italian sculptor and draftsman in the sixteenth century although it was not published until 1728. This work detailing the personal life of a well-known artist has become perhaps the most important autobiography of the Italian Renaissance giving readers a glimpse into the lives of historical figures like Michelangelo and the Medici family. In his writing Cellini is unconcerned with maintaining a proper image of himself and uses humor and exaggerations to embellish his story even describing violent attacks he supposedly committed and otherworldly experiences he endured. This trade edition was preceded by a 1946 limited edition of 1000 numbered copies signed by Dalí. Signed. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. New York: Doubleday & Company hardcover

[Salvador Dali] GERARD, Max (Edited and Arranged by); Translated by Eleanor R Morse
Dali
New York: Harry N. Abrams 1968. Later printing . Hardcover. Good /Very good. Quarto 243pp. illustrated. Harry N. Abrams did not state first or later printings during this period but we presume this is a later printing as the Abrams logo on the front panel appears to be that of ca. 1970-74. A slightly shaken copy good or better with general scuffing to the edges especially the corners. Still a crisp sound copy. In a very good dust jacket showing mild edgewear and some scrapes/abrasions to the rear panel which is typical for this title. Nevertheless a fantastic copy SIGNED boldly in purple ink by Dali and dated 1976 on the blank leaf opposite the title page. Signed copies of this excellent volume are rather uncommon compared to some of other of Dali's books. Harry N. Abrams hardcover

Il «destino» di un incontro. Salvador Dalì e Walt Disney
ill., br.

Dali's Optical Illusions
No marks or inscriptions. A lovely clean very tight copy with bright unmarked boards and no bumping to corners. Dust jacket not price clipped or marked or torn with a little indenting and surface rubbing from storage. 195pp. The book examines Dali's use of various pictorial techniques, photography, and holograms to further his exploration of visual perception and the ways that optical illusion affects our sense of reality. Includes discussion between the editor and a number of other authorities in the field. Very well illustrated. The book is also the catalogue for an exhibition in 2000 in Edinburgh and a number of American galleries.
