Title printed in the margin below the image center "Bonington 1824" at left and "Lith de G. Engelmann" right. Some evidence of lot foxing to the mount not to the chine. Some evidence of light foxing to the mount not to the chine. A brilliant impression of one of the signal images of early artistic lithography Felix Man deemed this to be Bonington's masterpiece because of "its delicate gradation of tone." Man Artist's Lithographs p. 38 In excellent condition. "One of the most important of the artists who collaborated on Voyages Pittoresques is Richard Parkes Bonington who was born in England in 1801 moved to France at an early age and died in London in 1828. His townscapes long served as models for similar work in lithography. His prints have the much-praised silver-grey tone of the French lithographic masterpieces from the shops of Engelmann and Delpech. American businessman and record-setting aviator Steve Fossett became the first person to fly solo nonstop around the world in 2002 in his 10-story high balloon Spirit of Freedom. He completed the 2002 trip in 13 days 8 hours and 33 minutes and set records for both the Longest Distance Flown Solo in a Balloon and Fastest Balloon Flight Around the World. Fossett was also one of sailing’s most prolific distance record holders set the Absolute World Speed Record for airships with a Zeppelin NT in 2004. He received numerous awards and honors throughout his career including aviation’s highest award the Gold Medal of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale FAI which he was awarded in 2002. Fine. 1953 Everest mountaineer George Band's own copy of this fine copy in blue cloth with gilt titles in a near fine dust jacket which has a little shelf wear to the top edge. Laid in: several post it notes annotated by George Band and an offprint from the journal of Asian Earth Sciences 'Channel flow and ductile extrusion of the high Himalayan slab- the Kangchenjunga-Darjeeling profile Sikkim Himalaya' by Michael P Searle and Adam G Szulc. From the collection of English mountaineer George Band the youngest member of the successful team which conquered Mount Everest in 1953. Band was President of the Mountaineering Club at Queen's College Cambridge and his exceptional Alpine record caught the eye of John Hunt who put him in charge of radio equipment on the Everest expedition. Band's finest achievement was the first ascent of Kangchenjunga in 1955. He pursued a professional career in oil exploration but continued to climb all over the world. He served as president of the Alpine Club and the British Mountaineering Council and published several books on mountaineering. He was made an OBE in 2009. Fine 1989 Diadem Books hardcover
