1930. complete in 7 magazine issues A Novel. Illustrated by F.R. Gruger. In: The American Magazine. Springfield Ohio: The Crowell Publishing Company April-October 1930 together seven issues. Original color pictorial wrappers. First American Appearance of this historical romance complete in these seven consecutive issues of The American Magazine where the novel is illustrated by F.R. Gruger -- some full-page some even double-page. It was in 1930 that the tale was also published in book form -- by Houghton Mifflin in the US and by Hutchinson as THE MINION in the UK. Condition is remarkably very good-plus minor edge-wear especially at the ends of the spines. The lower corner of all seven front covers bears the original mailing label -- which amazingly went to six different people! -- two in Illinois plus one each in Maine Massachusetts North Dakota and Wisconsin. Quite a survival.

unknown
1917. London: Martin Secker n.d.1917. 8 pp undated ads. Original grey paper-covered boards with brown cloth spine and printed spine label. First Edition. This was the first of Sabatini's three series of fictionalized historical events -- followed by other series in 1919 and in 1938. The thirteen episodes all have "The Night of." titles -- specifically: ".Holyrood" ".Kirk o' Field" ".Betrayal" ".Charity" ".Massacre" ".Witchcraft" ".Gems" ".Terror" ".Nuptials" ".Stranglers" ".Hate" ".Escape" and ".Masquerade." In his Preface Sabatini says he chose "more or less famous events. which were in themselves bizarre and resulting from the interplay of human passions." This is a near-fine copy top edge of spine label scuffed away barely affecting the first word of the title. This UK edition of the first series is rather scarce being a wartime book published before Sabatini found his stride after the war with books like SCARAMOUCHE and CAPTAIN BLOOD.

hardcover
1925. Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company 1925. Original black cloth lettered in red with dust jacket. First American Edition -- precedence uncertain between this edition and Hutchinson's undated one published in London. This tale has action and romance like all of Sabatini's yarns but it is unusual in that it takes place in the New World -- specifically in South Carolina during the American War of Independence. This volume is in fine condition; the color pictorial dust jacket with dramatic illustration by Frank Schoonover and bearing the proper price of $2.00 is in near-fine condition with just a trace of wear at a couple of corners.

hardcover
