‎Imagines mortis. His accesserunt, epigrammata, è gallico idiomate à Georgio Aemylio in Latinum translate. Ad haec, Medicina animae, tam ijs, qui firma, quàm qui aduersa corporis valetudine præditi sunt, maximè necessaria. Quae his addita sunt, sequens pagine demonstrabit.‎

‎Coloniae, apud hæredes Arnoldi Birckmanni, anno 1555 ; petit in-8. 99 ff. non chiffrés. Illustré de 53 figures gravées sur bois d'après les dessins d'Holbein. Veau brun, dos à nerfs orné, pièce de titre en maroquin rouge. Légères épidermures sur les plats. Bon exemplaire. Première édition établie à Cologne par les héritiers d'Arnold Birckmann, sur celle donnée par Jean Frellon à Lyon en 1547 contenant 53 vignettes dont 12 nouvelles. Parue initialement sous le titre "Les simulacres & historiées faces de la mort..." en 1538 à Lyon par les Frères Trechsel, elle ne comportait que 41 figures. Les gravures sur bois d'après les dessins de la Danse des Morts d'Holbein le Jeune ont été réalisées par Anton Silvius, dont on retrouve le monogramme sur les planches 15, 17, 18, 25 et 45. Elles sont inversées et légèrement agrandies par rapport à celles de 1547. Les images, accompagnées d'épigrammes traduites du français en latin par Georg Aemilius, sont suivies de six textes : "Medicina animae" (La médecine de l'âme) d'Ubanus Regius, "Ratio et methodus consolandi periculose decumbentes" (La consolation des malades), "Sermo de mortalitate" ( de saint Thascius Caecilius Cyprianus), "Oratio ad deum", "Oratio ad Christum", "De patientia & consummatione" (Sermon sur la patience de Jean Chrysostome). (Adams D 75. - Brunet III, 257).3 ex-libris manuscrits anciens sur le titre, 1 cachet humide au verso du titre de la "bibliothèque de Vauquelin de la Brosse - Château de Drumare". Deux pages manuscrites anciennes, ajoutées à la fin du volume, indiquent que les peintures originales d'Holbein se trouveraient à Bâle sur un mur "du cloître des frères prescheurs ou jacobins qui est à présent un temple où l'on voit la danse des morts".‎

‎1 vignette en page de titre reprise en dernière page, encadrements du texte très richement illustrés et 29 lettrines dont 24 pour l'alphabet en lui-même (sans J ni U). Les 5 autres lettrines sont des reprises de celles de l'alphabet.‎
