Published in 4 parts between 1958 and 1961, this is the standard catalogue of the Louvre's collection of 19th Century French paintings. Edited by Charles Sterling. Volume I (A-C): 496 black & white reproductions followed by 36 pages of catalogue descriptions. Volume II (D-G): 549 black & white reproductions + 8 full-page color plates, followed by 44 pages of descriptions. Volume III (H-O): 406 black & white reproductions + 8 full-page color platess followed by 33 pages of descriptions and an errata slip for the first 3 volumes. ‎A Amsterdam, chez Pierre Mortier, 1702. 2 volumes in-4 de [16]-348-[2] et [6]-386-[2] pages, plein veau moucheté, dos à 5 nerfs ornés de fleurons, filets, roulettes, titre et tomaison dorés, étiquettes de titre bordeaux, roulette dorée sur les coupes. Si le second volume ne souffre que d'un petit accroc en coiffe supérieure, de petits trous au dos et d'une inscription sur garde, le premier a beaucoup plus souffert des assauts du temps: manques aux coiffes, dos en grande partie détaché et coin inférieur des feuillets en charpilles sur 1/4 de l'ouvrage, avec atteinte au texte (heureusement peu importante) sur une vingtaine de pages, quelques cahiers déboîtés, manquent les pages 295, 296 et 297. Sans oublier quelques rousseurs...‎

‎Le premier volume comporte 112 planches (sur 114, ce qui tient du miracle), quelques-unes détachées, 6 tableaux dépliants (certains déchirés sans perte), un frontispice déchiré avec manques, des vignettes de tête de chapitre et en supplément un croquis volant à la plume. Le second volume est bien complet des 70 planches (dont un grande, volante), avec de rares auréoles et quelques déchirures (une avec manque minime), 2 tableaux dépliants et des vignettes de tête de chapitre. Bref, vous l'aurez compris, un imposant ouvrage malheuresment incomplet (et pourtant peu s'en faut pour qu'il le soit) avec des défauts fort marqués au premier volume.‎
