‎sehr guter Zustand - Kunsthistorischer Kriminalfall über die Folgen des,Sacco di Mantova', der die Originalquellen interpretiert, die technische Singularität des angeblich verschollenen' Dürerbilds untersucht, die jüngsten .Forschungen' zum ,Volto Santo' erklärt und damit den Mythos Manoppello in ein neues Licht rückt. -- Dürer festigte 1511 mit vier Holzschnitt-Büchern seinen internationalen Ruhm, als Raffael gerade für den Papst die Stanzen ausmalte. Die Kraft der neuen Medien erkennend, sandte Raffael zum Erweis seines Talents eigene Zeichnungen nach Nürnberg. Dürer erwiderte die Gabe mit einem beidseits sichtbaren bärtigen Männerporträt. Dieses Aquarell auf feinstem Leinen, dessen Technik außer Raffael auch Giulio Romano und Vasari in ratloses Staunen versetzte, verschwand im Juli 1630 aus dem geplünderten Palast von Mantua. Acht Jahre danach schenkte ein Arzt dem jungen Kapuzinerkloster von Manoppello ein beidseits sichtbares bärtiges Männerporträt auf feinstem Leinen. Er hatte den verzerrten und beschädigten Schleier einem in Chieti einsitzenden Soldaten abgekauft, rundum beschneiden und in einen Rahmen zwängen lassen. Die rasch konstruierte ?wahre Geschichte", die das Aquarell zum nicht von Menschenhand gemachten ,Volto Santo' erklärte, reicht bis 1506 zurück. Damals malte Dürer in Venedig in Freude über seine Anerkennung als Maler in Italien ein Bild, desgleichen er noch nie gemacht habe. ISBN 9783795436452‎
