Exemplaire dont les illustrations sont en partie rehaussées à l'aquarelle. Les exemplaires ordinaires sont en noir et blanc. "Entre mars 1915 et janvier 1917, au cœur de la Grande Guerre, le dessinateur Sem se rend sur les fronts de l’Est et du Nord, pour dresser sur le vif, un portrait saisissant et sincère des combattants et du théâtre des opérations. Entièrement illustré de 150 dessins n/b. Pas de jaquette. Les pages brutes sont vieillies / teintées, mais dans l'ensemble dans un bon à très bon état. 247 pages. 210 x 160 mm (8Œ x 6Œ pouces). Les dix articles rassemblés ici ont été initialement publiés dans le journal français «Le Journal», lorsque le SEM travaillait comme correspondant de guerre pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Le vrai nom de SEM était Georges Goursat (1863 - 1934).‎

‎First edition. Has been rebound in brown cloth, with gilt stamped title to spine. Original paper from spine, laid in to inside front board. Fully illustrated with 150 b/w drawings. No dust jacket. Rough cut pages are aged / toned, but overall in a good to very good condition. 247 pages. 210 x 160 mm (8Œ x 6Œ inches). The ten articles collected here were originally published in the French newspaper 'Le Journal', when SEM worked as their war correspondent during WW1. SEM's real name was Georges Goursat (1863 - 1934).‎

Some minor edge tears and chips. Original publisher's printed wrappers. A splendid series of contemporary caricatures of the characters and doings of a summer at Deauville in 1912. Georges Goursat moved to Paris in about 1900 and adopted the professional name 'SEM' in honour of the 19th-century illustrator "Cham" Amédée de Noé and during his long and very successful working life recorded Paris and the French upper classes during four decades - a speciality was to produce images which are somewhere between straight portraits and outright caricature. He was also capable of more straightforward illustration satirical work as well as producing a great deal of purely commercial work. unknown‎
