Charles de secondat, baron de la Bréde et de Montesquieu, naquit au château de la Bréde, prés de Bordeaux, au début de l'année 1689. Issu d'une famille de la noblesse de robe, il fut destiné dès son enfance à suivre la même carrière que les siens.
