Paperback. 63pp. Slim quarto 25 cm Illustrated wraps with a cutout silhouette of a butterfly in the middle of front wrap and "Papillion I- Fluttering Butterfly" exposed on the page behind it. Good only. The extremities are mildly rubbed and creased. There is a 1" closed tear in the bottom edge of the front wrap along the joint at the foot of the spine. Pp. 5-14 are detached but present. With illustrations in color and black and white. Although Icart did not like to be identified with artistic movements his art is often thought of as a symbol of the Art Deco movement. Paris Editions Excelsior 1934 In-8, maroquin noir, premier plat orné dans un caisson central d'une composition originale signée de Louis Icart, réalisée en box modelé et mis en couleurs, représentant Don Quichotte sur son cheval poussé par Sancho Pança, escaladant la France disposée sur un globe terrestre; dos à quatre nerfs; larges encadrements intérieurs ornés de filets au palladium, doublures et gardes de soie moirée verte, doubles gardes de papier marbré mauve, tranches dorées sur brochure, couverture illustrée. Chemise, étui (Louis Icart inv. - Maylander rel. dor.).Edition originale du seul livre de Louis Icart, dans lequel l'artiste transpose l'histoire de Don Quichotte sous la forme d'une pièce de théâtre. Dans le cinquième et dernier acte, Don Quichotte ressuscité part en croisade en France contre les maux de la société moderne: le Veau d'Or étalé... l'Argent-pour-l'Argent... le règne du mesquin... du "petit" ... du méchant... le triomphe, en un mot, de la Muflerie. Les ailes des moulins à vent sont remplacées par les ailes des avions porteuses de craintes et d'espoirs. Tirage sur grand papier limité à un exemplaire sur japon et 20 exemplaires numérotés sur auvergne. Exemplaire sur auvergne (n°1) offert par l'artiste à son épouse avec sur le faux titre cet envoi autographe signé : A toi - pour toi - par toi ! Louis Icart. Exemplaire enrichi d'une maquette dessinée au crayon par l'artiste pour le faux titre et la page de titre, montée en tête du livre et portant cet hommage: A Fanny, ma femme. ... De chez Véronèse et de chez Watteau tu es venue chez moi... - Et j'ai peint. ... Tandis que près de toi j'œuvrais tu m'as lu "Cervantès"... - Et j'ai écrit ceci... En hommage, je t'offre ce fruit de mes pensées, de mes veilles et de mon amour. Louis Icart. La couverture du livre est illustrée d'une grande composition de l'artiste représentant Don Quichotte levant les bras au ciel devant une nuée d'ailes de moulins se transformant en avions. Cette couverture n'a pas été coupée et se déplie en tête de l'ouvrage. Très précieux exemplaire dans une reliure exceptionnelle ornée sur le premier plat d'une composition originale modelée et colorée de Louis Icart. C'est à notre connaissance la seule reliure décorée par cet artiste.
