Large quarto 3-203 5 last blank pages including the pictorial front wrapper with approximately 175 illustrations plus 18 tipped-in plates one in colour 2 folding and a complete suite of all the in-text illustrations bound in at the rear. Contemporary unsigned designer-binding of half morocco and marbled papered boards top edge gilt with the original front wrapper retained; gilt-lettered spine stylishly decorated with eight wide raised bands with gilt and brown rules and an art deco cat in brown silhouette; leather very slightly rubbed at the extremities; marbled paper lightly rubbed at a few high spots; essentially a fine copy. One of only 535 copies in three variants; this copy is out-of-series and does not strictly conform to any of them. However it is closest to the 35 copies on 'Japon Imperial contenant chacun une suite a part des dessins sur papier de Chine' in this instance the extra suite is printed on Arches paper. Bound without wrappers. extensive panoramic scroll of this once-in-a-generation wine festival original hand-coloured lithograph on 30 plates conjoined. each plate aprox. 185 x 500 mm. 7 1/4 x 19 3/4 in. An impressively large panorama running over 14 meters in total. The fête of 1833 was held over two days in August involving nearly 800 participants pulling numerous floats and was organized by David Constantin and Steinlen. In the present day the Swiss fête is organized by the Confrérie des Vignerons Brotherhood of Winegrowers and while they are free to choose how often the festival takes place it can only happen five times each century. The next Fête des Vignerons was held in July 2019<br/>There were two showings with tickets costing between one and three francs each. The vignerons Jean-Louis Blanchoud and the Lécheyres brothers were crowned. A further thirty-two vignerons also received awards. This scroll depicts the actual participants in the procession wearing costumes also designed by Steinlen. Many of the floats are symbolic and represent the seasons or Bacchus but many of them show the actual tools of the trade such as a display of barrel making various crop management tools and even a large wine press. The final image is that of Noah's ark as Noah is considered to be the first vigneron. This publication is one a number of illustrative depictions of the 1833 Fête Simon lists three alone in Bibliotheca Gastronomica. Lithograph. 47 x 31.25 inches.<br/><br/> A celebration of Franco-Serbian solidarity this compelling World War I poster shows a French infantryman leading a group of Serb civilians and soldiers as they head across a bare winter landscape. The leading Serb soldier has his hand on the Frenchman's shoulder. <br> Allied to the Entente Powers Serbia had been overwhelmed by the vastly superior numbers of Central Powers forces and after defeat at the Battle of Kosovo at the end of 1915 the Serbian Army was forced out of their home territory and fled into Albania. Thousands of Serbs died of cold and starvation during the following winter. Kosovo had been the sight of an historic Serbian defeat at the hands of the Ottomans in 1389 which led to the loss of Serbian independence and became a symbol of Serb nationalism. 'Serbia Day' 1916 was organized in Paris to benefit the displaced Serbs and was celebrated in June to coincide with the approximate date of that medieval battle.<br>Théophile Alexandre Steinlen 1859-1923 frequently referred to as just Steinlen was a Swiss-born Art Nouveau painter and printmaker best known for his 'Chat Noir' advertisements for the cabaret of the same name. <br>The poster is laid on linen and in good condition.
