Morison begins with an example of alphabetic forms on a 6th century BC gravestone from Melos and proceeds through commentary on a notable collection of more than 180 illustrated specimens, to trace the career of the Graeco-Roman alphabet up to its use in newspaper typefaces of the 1950s. He also seeks to show that the most widely used printers' typefaces of the twentieth century owe more to their Greek than to their Roman antecedents.

It is meant to do two things: to present references to works on medieval military history and technology not included in the first two volumes; and to present references to all books and articles published on medieval military history and technology from 2003 to 2006. These references are divided into the same categories as in the first two volumes and cover a chronological period of the same length, from late antiquity to 1648, again in order to present a more complete picture of influences on and from the Middle Ages. It also continues to cover the same geographical area as the first and second volume, in essence Europe and the Middle East, or, again, influences on and from this area. The languages of these bibliographical references reflect this geography.

Nel 1986, Ansaldo Group, il piu grande gruppo italiano per costruzioni meccaniche, navi, ferrovie, centrali di energia, diede l' incarico a Sottsass Associati, guidata da Ettore Sottsass, di progettare il Graphic System Guide per coordinare l'immagine della societa in tutte le sedi italiane e straniere. Ne ? nata questa pubblicazione in 6 volumi con cofanetto, prodotto in pochi semplari per ciascuna sede Ansaldo. Sottsass aveva progettato anche il marchio Ansaldo. Bible of the Ansaldo Group, the largest Italian group for mechanical construction, ships,railways, power plants, commissioned Sottsass Associati, led by Ettore Sottsass , to design the graphic System Guide to coordinate the company's image in all the Italian and foreign branches. The result was this 6 - volume publication with slipcase, produced in a few copies (50) for each Ansaldo headquarters. Sottsass had also designed the Ansaldo trademark. Fine condition
