Ein so gewendeter Begriff von Design kann zudem als Anschlusspunkt für aktuelle künstlerische Praktiken, die mit einer Rekonstruktion oder Aktualisierung der Formensprachen moderner Gestaltung operieren, aktiviert werden. Lange dominierte der Tauschwert von Design die Diskussion. Dekoration und Oberflächenmanipulation in der industriellen Warenproduktion schienen einzig als Aufgabenfeld zu verbleiben. Diese historische Hypothek zeigt sich auch in den Zeichentauschwert-Zitaten von Designklassikern, wie sie in der bildenden Kunst im Zuge "relationaler Ästhetiken" hoch im Kurs standen. Dem wäre nun das kritische Potential des Gebrauchswert von Design-Lösungen und die Analyse der damit verbundenen arbeitsteiligen Produktionsprozesse entgegenzusetzen, (siehe dazu den Beitrag von Sven Lütticken - und die Covergestaltung von Jorge Pardo). Im Beharren auf der Funktionalität von Planung und Entwurf ist das entscheidende Moment einer emanzipatorischen, utopischen Vorstellung von Design zu suchen, (siehe dazu das Gespräch zwischen Jesko Fezer und Tomas Maldonado). Bitz provides a humorous fanciful collection of poems and illustrations that are perhaps best described by Chas Fowler: "He leads us down the garden path and beckons us slyly under shadowy ferns among mystical beetle tracks. No one is at home and the woods are full of little people tinkering with tiny hammers. Branches creak. Choirs of weasels are singing. A deaf rabbit strolls by. And while you stand there perplexed Bitz is hiding in the bushes around the side of the house dressed in an owl suit chuckling all to himself. Red Studio Press unknown
