The world of Biedermeier
Folio in orange color illus DJ, 416 pages, color illustrations, 33 cm. DJ protected in archival mylar sleeve. **A large, heavy book. Extra shipping charges may apply for international & expedited orders. Please inquire.** || "The hundreds of color photographs by Lois Lammerhuber set a new standard for design and furniture photography. Linda Chase's engaging text, which includes interviews with leading experts and museum curators, is the most comprehensive account available of this influential and vital style." "Biedermeier furniture and interior design are recognized today as the first great flowering of haute bourgeois taste in interior decoration. Beginning in the early nineteenth century, these ideals in design were pursued by a wide range of society, from the Habsburgs and Hohenzollern to the middle class throughout Central Europe. The style ranges from celebrations of comfort, domestic intimacy, and practicality to highly embellished pieces designed for public display. Biedermeier's innate classicism, its often lyrical, yet elegant forms, have made it an influential inspiration that is truly timeless."--Jacket. Contents: History -- Vienna : the beginning -- The emergence of a style -- Berlin : Schinkel's realm -- Biedermeier today.

Chaubin Frédéric
CCCP. Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed. Ediz. inglese, francese e tedesca
ill., ril. Elected the architectural book of the year by the International Artbook and Film Festival in Perpignan, France, Frédéric Chaubin's Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed explores 90 buildings in 14 former Soviet Republics. Each of these structures expresses what Chaubin considers the fourth age of Soviet architecture, an unknown burgeoning that took place from 1970 until 1990. Contrary to the 1920s and 1950s, no "school" or main trend emerges here. These buildings represent a chaotic impulse brought about by a decaying system. Taking advantage of the collapsing monolithic structure, architects went far beyond modernism, going back to the roots or freely innovating. Some of the daring ones completed projects that the Constructivists would have dreamt of (Druzhba Sanatorium, Yalta), others expressed their imagination in an expressionist way (Palace of Weddings, Tbilisi). A summer camp, inspired by sketches of a prototype lunar base, lays claim to Suprematist influence (Prometheus youth camp, Bogatyr). Then comes the "speaking architecture" widespread in the last years of the USSR: a crematorium adorned with concrete flames (Crematorium, Kiev), a technological institute with a flying saucer crashed on the roof (Institute of Scientific Research, Kiev), a political center watching you like Big Brother (House of Soviets, Kaliningrad). In their puzzle of styles, their outlandish strategies, these buildings are extraordinary remnants of a collapsing system. In their diversity and local exoticism, they testify both to the vast geography of the USSR and its encroaching end of the Soviet Union, the holes in a widening net. At the same time, they immortalize many of the ideological dreams of the country and its time, from an obsession with the cosmos to the rebirth of identity. About the series TASCHEN is 40! Since we started our work as cultural archaeologists in 1980, TASCHEN has become synonymous with accessible publishing, helping bookworms around the world curate their own library of art, anthropology, and aphrodisia at an unbeatable price. Today we celebrate 40 years of incredible books by staying true to our company credo. The 40 series presents new editions of some of the stars of our program-now more compact, friendly in price, and still realized with the same commitment to impeccable production.

Chaubin Frédéric
CCCP. Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed. Ediz. inglese, francese e tedesca
ill., br.

Chaucer Geoffrey
Troilus and Criseyde
Berkshire: Golden Cockerel Press 1927. Gill Eric. This handsome volume is Eric Gill's tour-de-force his wood engravings appearing in the outer margin of every page of text. The decorations show leafy vines that frame and interlace the characters who seem to be taking part in and commenting on the stories themselves. Troilus and Criseyde is one of the three most important books of the Golden Cockerel Press and it precedes the other two The Canterbury Tales and The Four Gospels. Of the three it also has the smallest limitation. In discussing these three books Colin Franklin writes that "Eric Gill's work goes back into the history of printed books and manuscripts joining two arts with unique success." Of this volume he goes on to say that the illustrations are "affectionate and cheeky erotic enjoyable and relevant decorative and explanatory a balance of taste and eye. Author artist and printer have shared one concept and expressed it." Quarto. xi 312pp. One of 225 copies printed on Kelmscott paper in black red and blue. The Garden copy with leather booklabel on front pastedown. Slight rubbing to corners few spots of foxing to fore-edge of text block else a fine copy in morocco-backed patterned paper boards spine in six compartments and gilt stamped with the title. Cheick Diallo
Made in Mali Cheick Diallo, Designer
Hardcover, 141 pages, English/Francais, 225 x 197 mm, fine copy , richly illustrated with coloured illustrations, . ISBN 9788836623440.
