The book design and decorative typography was executed by the author, and it was printed and bound in Japan. This grand publication made available to the general public a collection of 17,000 carefully documented drawings and photographs executed by artists and scholars working under the Works Project Administration. This is a fine softcover copy with a very good die cut dust wrapper with just light wear: a little creasing to the top of the jacket spine, not affecting the book inside. The spine is not creased, binding firm. Gray silk pagemark fine. Text in English. This monograph was prepared to accompany the large scale retrospective exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil-Am-Rhein in 2000. Catalogue edited by Alexander von Vegesack. Exhibition curator Mathias Remmele. Verner Panton (1926- 1998) lived and worked in Basel, which was close to the Vitra Museum, and when Vitra was opened Panton transferred many objects and drawings and papers to the Vitra Museum archive. The curators at Vitra worked closely with the Panton Office and especially Marianne Panton to provide the most comprehensive showing of Panton's vast output, including textiles. Illustrated in color and black & white. Bibliography. Essential reference for Verner Panton. 12" high X 9" wide, 379 pages. Large very heavy book, foreign shipping will be extra. Original publisher's pictorial wrapper with flaps. 2nd edition of this novel originally published in English language under the title "The Hideout" in 1942 in the U.S. back cover shows the cover illustration of this edition where Hostovsky had to flee from the Nazis in 1940 due to his Jewish origins. Teige's stringent cover design combines geometric and typografic elements alike. Creating a reduced and in the same time dynamic composition his aim obivously was to revice the constructivist atmosphere of his covers during the interwar periode. - Cover very slightly worn paper time-stained otherwise fine copy of this hard to find edition. - Wilpert-LdW 687.
