Paris: Editios De La Gazette Des Beaux-Arts 1929. softcover. came with a torn and yellowed glassine dust jacket which has for the time being been replaced by a folded mylar protector. the covers and spine were dazzling white upon removal of the darkened glassine. the untrimmed page edges are age-toned but not remarkably so. some pages are uncut at the top edge. all illustrations and plates are present. the first several pages show a diminishing water stain at the very bottom at the gutter. it is small and fades out quickly. the binding is likely fragile. i've gone through the book to count pages and plates 2-3 times and it held up but it is 75 years old and there will be a limit to how it can be handled. there is very minimal spotting to small areas of a very few pages and is not a major issue. i believe that this is the first issue dated juin 15 1929. text is french. 167pp of text with b/w lithoraphs VIII is followed by 79 illustrations many of which are colored. there is a colored frontispiece. the illustrations are works of well known european artists starting with david and ingres and proceeding up to sonia delaunay. some are by fashion illustrators of the day. lastly in the text section are two bound in strips that look like what you'd have left if someone carefully removed all but one inch of a page. i can find no explanation for these strips. all illustrations and pages are accounted for. perhaps they are analagous to what one sees in certain scrapbooks where removal of blank pages gives the binding a type of volume relief. .
