brossura Negli anni '50 del Novecento servirsi dei sistemi basati sulla griglia per organizzare un layout divenne lo standard, e in tempi recenti la griglia tipografica è tornata a essere oggetto di interesse. Ma fin dal principio, alcuni graphic designer hanno cercato di rompere lo schema compositivo basato sulla struttura ortogonale a favore dell'espressività, dando vita a un dibattito ideologico che è tutt'ora in corso. Queste posizioni opposte hanno generato alcuni tra i progetti più convincenti che siano mai stati creati, ed entrambe offrono strumenti validi: la sfida è determinare quale sia la soluzione più adatta a ogni specifico obiettivo. Progettare con e senza griglia presenta la più esaustiva, accessibile e approfondita rassegna di concept di layout che sia mai stata pubblicata. Scegliere di seguire le regole oppure di infrangerle richiede innanzitutto di comprendere a che cosa servono e poi di considerare pratiche di segno opposto, valutandole in situazioni concrete con esempi tratti dal mondo reale.

One page text explains that in the summer of 1991, 92 designers from America and Canada were asked to make portraits of themselves. The result of that idea is this book. Illustrated in color and black & white with 92 full-page self portraits of a who's who of the design world in the early 1990's. List of Designers.
