VI Triennale di Milano. Esposizione internazionale delle Arti decorative...Attribuzione delle ricompense
In 8 (cm 14 x 21,5), pp. 30 + (2). Brossura editoriale. A partire dal 1923, anno di istituzione della Prima "Esposizione Internazionale delle Arti decorative" con sede a Monza (poi trasferita a Milano nel 1933), la manifestazione venne accompagnata e solennizzata con l'assegnazione, agli espositori, di premi e medaglie. Questo e' il catalogo per l'edizione 1936, la VI, con il regolamento per l'assegnazione dei premi da parte della Giuria. In primo luogo sono esclusi alcuni architetti e designer, per aver collaborato con membri della giuria o per aver partecipato all'allestimento di sezioni. Sono, ad esempio, esclusi dall'assegnazione dei premi: Bruno Munari, Felice Casorati, Mario Labo', Piero Bottoni, Enrico Prampolini, Anton Giulio Bragaglia e vari altri. Tra gli esclusi, in quanto gia' vincitori dei concorsi banditi dalla Triennale, Lucio Fontana, Marcello Nizzoli, Giancarlo Palanti, Edoardo Persico (per il Salone della Vittoria), Luigi Figini e Gino Pollini (per la scrivania con relativa sedia e poltrona), Bramante Buffoni e Leonardo Spreafico (per la sala da pranzo con decorazioni murali). Seguono poi i lungi elenchi di vincitori della Gran Premio, della medaglia d'oro e d'argento, di bronzo e del diploma d'onore. Tra i vincitori della medaglia d'oro per l'Italia: architetti Antonio Cassi-Ramelli e Paolo Buffa, Ignazio Gardella, Giuseppe Mazzoleni, poi Giacomo Manzoni (Manzu'), le ditte E. Pieghevole pubblicitario ripiegato a 6 falde, cm 51 x 22, realizzato in occasione della fiera di Milano del 1956, in cui la Rai presentava la sua programmazione e i suoi spettacoli. L'immagine anteriore e posteriore del pieghevole richiama soluzioni stilistiche attribuibili al designer Max Huber. Huber e' stato uno dei migliori graphic designer del '900. Svizzero, inizia a lavorare in Italia presso lo studio Boggeri, in seguito (dopo la guerra) si applichera' al rifacimento della grafica Einaudi, e collabora con i migliori architetti dellepoca (Castiglioni, Carboni ad esempio) in occasione di allestimenti per Eni e Rai, Rinascente, Olivetti ecc.

France / China 1900. Octavo. 22pp. Album of Chinese landscapes in original watercolors facing depictions of women's antique costumes painted on silk interleaved with tissue. "Chinoiserie" refers to European art characterized by imagery of a romanticized China a notion that similarly underpins the genre of costume books which presented foreign fashion through a European lens. It appears that the brightly-colored landscapes in this album were done later than the silk paintings most likely by a Western artist. Included are market scenes depictions of boats on a river and pagodas. These European stylings contrast with the depictions of Chinese fashion opposite them bringing a stark juxtaposition of East and West not often seen in costume books. The delicate paintings of costumes on silk are done in a much more traditional Chinese style. Great attention is paid to details such as the knotted red and green silk cords worn around the women's waists floral hair ornaments and the subtle patterns of their loose-sleeved robes. One woman carries a basket of flowers another poses beside a deer and one is dressed as a warrior with a sword in a jacket and loose trousers tying on her knee guards. The costumes are colored in soft shades of blue pink and green. Very fine in soft gilt-titled white calf with raised bands on the spine blind-tooled with decorative rules. Russian Gold Book
St. Petersburg 1905. 14-carat pendant in the form of a hinged book containing three leaves with fine engraving work. The text begins with a plaintive song which was apparently popular in the salons of pre-Revolutionary Russia and which closes with the line "Farewell my invaluable friend/ Do not forget me." This is followed by a poem about a late-blooming rose that dies. The selection closes with the aria from "The Demon" by Nikolai Rubenstein the translation of which is "Forgive me heavenly creature that I disturbed your peace." These texts together with the endearing diminutive used by the writer in addressing the recipient in the poem -- calling her Muroschka or my little kitten -- suggests that this was created to commemorate some sort of liaison between members of the Russian aristocracy. Accompanying the delicate engraved script are the musical staves and three floral vignettes all of which exhibit an accomplish artisan's level of skill. The covers are bejeweled as follows: The upper cover is a masterwork of filigree work with what appears to be a double "M" monogram in the center; on the rear is an engraved musical stave flanked by a lily of the valley rendered in diamonds and a forget-me-not in turquoise. The pendant loop at the spine head is hallmarked which indicates the location and approximate date. The extremely high level of craftsmanship evident in this piece evokes the work of Fabergé although it is not signed as such. Whether it is the master's shop or not this piece is an accurate reflection of the art of jewelry-making in Imperial Russia. A stunning object housed in an elaborate black and purple morocco tray case. 2 3/4 by 1 1/4; 45 x 31mm. unknown

A poster from the Berkeley Political Poster Workshop created in response to the Kent State shootings. Features the famous image of Mary Ann Vecchio kneeling over the body of Jeffrey Miller May 4 1970 with a call to "Work For Peace!!" and a list of things that can be done including not paying phone taxes wearing black armbands and speaking up in local churches and unions. With "Kamakazi Design Group" printed in lower right corner and the union label for Berkeley Graphic Arts Offset Printers in the bottom left corner. The Political Poster Workshop was a loose collective of student activists that formed in 1970 out of screenprinting classes led by Malaquías Montoya an important figure in the Chicano Art Movement and lecturer at Berkeley. FIRST COLOURED ENGLISH EDITION 1898 Preface states "New edition in colours" 4to 300 x 235 mm 11¾ x 9 inches cloth backed boards with large coloured illustration to upper cover specially commissioned from Toulouse Lautrec by the original French publishers indoor scene 2 women 1 playing with this book large dog man entering room cat and cockatoo. 23 full page coloured illustrations attributed on title page to F.J. Vernay Yorick etc. printed 1 side only. Most illustrations are very interesting: Water Mill Serpentine Dancer Harlequin Traction Engine Mortar Mill Steamboat Volcano Scissors Grinder Life Boat Cat and Cherub little black boy crying in bath-tub watched by cat House on Fire etc. 3 are geometric. The book was supplied with a 'transparency' rectangular sheet of clear plastic printed with horizontal lines mounted in a card frame housed in pocket inside front cover which when moved as indicated over the pictures produced an illusion of movement. Expertly rebacked in red cloth matching original corners slightly worn showing cardboard at tips covers slightly dusty-looking a few small stains and marks to lower cover a few tiny scrapes to upper cover next to spine endpapers lightly browned tiny pale stain to upper inner edge of first few pages otherwise contents clean. A very good copy with original transparency but lacking its cardboard frame. This is an expanded edition of the uncoloured version published the same year without the Toulouse Lautrec cover and with only 13 illustrations. MORE IMAGES ATTACHED TO THIS LISTING ALL ZOOMABLE. An occasional pale fingermark mostly to lower margins otherwise contents clean small piece missing from lower blank corner of 1 plate tiny closed tear with tiny chip to lower margin of Butterfly plate. A very good copy with original transparency damaged as noted. This is an expanded edition of the uncoloured version published the same year without the Toulouse Lautrec cover and with only 13 illustrations. MORE IMAGES ATTACHED TO THIS LISTING ALL ZOOMABLE.
