As they fall into disagreement Trudy suggests that Jimmy run himself and in an empty threat he says he will. The newspaper picks up the story and Jimmy is swept up into politics and drawn close to Trudy striking up an unlikely romance. <br/><br/>8 x 9.5 inches. Belle lettre amicale à madame Canestrier, dans laquelle il regrette notamment que le dernier film qu'il a réalisé, Gloria, n'ait eut aucun succès. « c'est - je crois - un joli film, sensible et, surtout bien fait, avec ce qui est rare, des moyens (de l'argent) pour les reconstitutions, ce qui coûte très cher. Mais, hélas, ce film ne correspond plus à l'époque. Il n'a eu aucun succès - sauf d'estime. ce qui ne suffit pas : mon producteur, richissime. un vrai Crésus, m'a, aussitôt après, laisser tomber. Il en pardonne pas l'insuccès - et l'estime, ils s'en foutent bien. Marcel Dassault, car c'était lui, engage d'autres réalisateurs. et cette merveilleuse "CHARTREUSE DE PARME", qu'il m'avait, pourtant, juré - par écrit - de me financer. ce qui était, pour lui, facile. il m'a lâchement abandonné. Grossièrement même, car il m'a écrit que Gloria était un film "admirable", mais qu'il ne ferait "pas un sou". donc : adieu ! Plus mufle on ne l'est pas ». Il oeuvre aussi à l'écriture d'un livre. Peut-être son autobiographie, La Rage dans le coeur, parue en 1984. Et il se rappelle de sa monteuse, Madeleine Gug morte en 1971 (et enterré avec la famille Autant-Lara). On joint une enveloppe d'un autre courrier. Belle lettre dans laquelle on sent toute la tristesse et l'amertume d'Autant-Lara qui sait qu'il ne pourra pas faire sa Chartreuse de Parme. [492]‎

Mais qu'y faire ? Ce monte est entrainé dans une ronde non moins folle. et absurde ? ». Il est ensuite question d'un autre film qu'il qualifie de folie et qui ne verra peut-être pas le jour, de Madeleine Gug qui travaille à « un film de fou », de son fils Le Diable au corps qui semble projeté sans autorisation d'Autant Lara, des séquelles de son accident de 1970 (il boite. Madeleine Gug, qui était avec lui, mourra des conséquences de cet accident). On joint la copie d'une lettre d'Autant-Lara à la même, du 10 septembre 1970, peu après l'accident et une photo de la tombe de la famille Autant-Lara après 1971 : Madeleine Gug est enterrée dans cette tombe.
