Brief corrective annotations in holograph ink on two pages. <br/><br/>Set in South America in the early 1900s at an insane asylum where patient Lazarus resides. <br/><br/>Based on previous scripts we have handled for this title the project was to star Charles Bronson but representatives from the Paul Kohner agency called the central character "a sort of left-over snack derived from Tony Quinn's character of the Indian in the play ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST" and that Bronson did not "fancy himself playing Indians." The representatives also say that the story spirals into a meaningless psychedelic peyote-induced "freeforall" with the timeless and worn idea that people commit outrageous and unhinged deeds because the world around them is exactly that: outrageous and unhinged. <br/><br/>Blue wrappers. Goff Ivan screenwriter; Henry Blanke supervisor
The Great Lie Original screenplay for an unproduced film
Burbank CA: Warner Brothers 1937. Temporary Draft script for an unproduced film called "The Great Lie" written by Ivan Goff under the supervision of Henry Blanke. Not to be confused with the 1941 Emund Goulding film starring Bette Davis. Owner name in holograph pencil on the front wrapper. File Copy rubber-stamped on the front wrapper. Set in England a prolific playwright is accused of murder and only the mysterious woman at the scene of the crime can prove his innocence. To avoid scandal the playwright and the new "alibi" are married in a rush and the woman has second thoughts ultimately discovering her true passions for the playwright. Ivan Goff 1910-1999 was a house screenwriter for Warner Brothers his first film credit being the Curtis Bernhardt film "My Love Came Back" 1940. Prior to this Goff was a staff writer at Republic Pictures and this script would mark perhaps his earliest entry with Warner even though the film went unproduced. US: Cannon Films 1985. Draft script and archive for the 1986 film belonging to actor Lainie Kazan who played Sylvia in the film with her holograph annotations throughout and various other ephemera including call sheets cast and crew lists two thumbnail sized photographs of her in character and 16 additional revised script pages with occasional handwritten annotations. Most significantly included is a handwritten notebook containing Kazan's notes on her character's background motivation reactions and relationships to other characters. While we occasionally to see working scripts such as the one offered here with actor's annotations this kind of separate in-depth character work is rare. Lainie Kazan is an Emmy and Tony Award nominated actor and singer perhaps best known to mainstream audiences for playing Nia Vardalos' mother is the surprise 2002 hit "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
