This is a pre-production continuity not to be confused with a post-production continuity. <br/><br/>The "other woman" in this early 1940s Twentieth Century-Fox programmer turns out to be Emily Virginia Gilmore faithful secretary to master architect Henry Summers James Ellison. Hoping to trap her boss into marriage Emily begins sending "mash notes" to Henry purportedly from a mysterious female admirer. She then coerces her old pal Ralph Dan Duryea to pose as her jealous Southern-fried boy friend of the nonexistent letter-writer. Poor Henry convinced that Ralph is the gangster who's been threatening him with bodily harm takes off for parts unknown. Our heroine spends the rest of the picture chasing Henry until he finally catches her Hal Erickson Rovi. <br/><br/>From the AFI Catalog: "The working title of this film was 'Leap Year' also the title of Lamar Trotti's original story. According to a September 4 1941 memo in the Twentieth Century-Fox Records of the Legal Department located at the UCLA Arts Special Collections Library Trotti wrote the story "sometime ago" and sold it to the studio for one dollar when producer Walter Morosco decided to make it as a "low budget picture." Provenance available upon request. <br /> <br /> George Provis was a British Art Director and Production Designer who began his career working on quota quickies low budget features made to comply with Britain's Cinematograph Films Act of 1927 in the 1930s. After the Second World War Provis was appointed by British film producer Sydney Box to head the art department at Gainsborough Pictures and is credited on over 120 films.<br /> <br /> Based on the 1964 play by screenwriter Jack Roffey. Ray Milland appeared in the popular 1966 Broadway production of the play which originally opened on the West End in 1964 starring Michael Denison and decided to make a feature film from the play with himself directing in 1967. Although the film was completed in 1968 it wouldn't see a British release until 1970.<br /> <br /> Ray Milland stars as a barrister who after his daughter is killed in a hit and run accident is determined to find the driver and exact vengeance. After his neighbor is killed in a botched robbery Milland becomes a suspect when a letter is found implicating the neighbor in his daughter's death.<br /> <br /> Brown untitled wrappers. ‎Hollywood: Paramount Pictures 1943. Revised Draft script for the 1943 film. Co-written for the screen by Raymond Chandler and Frank Partos. Chandler's contribution to the script had mostly to do with Alan Ladd's character and his tough dialogue elements sneered at by the media upon the film's release. Laid in is an 8-page shooting schedule on blue stock a 6-page revision to sequence "A" on yellow onionskin stock and 14 pages of "inter-office communication" on yellow studio stationery comments on scenes sequences and pages of the script. <br/><br/>Based on Rachel Field's 1942 novel about Emily Blair Loretta Young a wealthy deaf girl whose hometown is named for her family. Doctor Vance Ladd who grew up on the other side of town resents the Blair family but is working on a serum to cure deafness which he tries on Emily and she is eventually cured. <br/><br/>One of only five screenplays written by Chandler this being the second following his script for the classic "Double Indemnity" 1944 based on James M. Cain's novel. <br/><br/>Chandler had a tumultuous career in Hollywood including a suspension in late 1945 from Paramount for "refusing to perform under a contract which is not a proper expression of my standing in the motion picture business" but his influence on film adaptation is nearly unmatched with scripts and stories that pushed the limits of the Production Code Administration. <br/><br/>Script:<br/><br/>White self wrappers production No. SF 8577 dated December 3 1943 with credits for screenwriters Partos and Chandler. Featured are several stunning images of acrtress Tcherina as Isa Duchess of Teruel. Brief numerical annotations on the versos in holograph pencil. <br/><br/>Belgian actor-director Rouleau's nearly seen drama was the opening film at the 15th annual Cannes Film Festival winner of the festival's Technical Grand Prize and nominated for a Palme d'Or. Of note is the film's cinematographer Claude Renoir whose other credits include "Serenade" 1940 "Madame Butterfly" 1954 "Barbarella" 1968 and "The Spy Who Loved Me" 1977. <br/><br/>Isa is a dancer in a troupe of poor traveling comedians who perform in public; she stars as the Duchess of Teruel unhappily married and in love with a poor man who inevitably commits suicide resulting in Isa's nervous breakdown. <br/><br/>7 x 9.25 inches.
