‎No binding. Very Good. Photo Vintage original 8 x 10"" 20 x 25 cm. black-and-white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo USA. Greta Garbo Charles Bickford Marie Dressler George F. Marion dir: Clarence Brown MGM. For Garbo's first All-Talking picture film MGM had the world wait more than two years into the sound movie process before allowing her to be heard. They chose Eugene O'Neill's famous play as her vehicle and it was a super hit. This scene still includes Garbo as Anna and veteran actor George F. Marion as her father. Marion adapted the play and wrote the screenplay. Garbo was nominated for the Academy Award as best actress for her very first talkie. This was a stark and minimalist version of the famous play far different from most MGM films of the time. Though the film creaks Garbo's work is still astonishing. At a time when the Academy Awards were still under construction Garbo was actually nominated twice in the same year she received a separate nomination for Romance. Still is coded 456-145. Vanessa Redgrave Sarah Miles David Hemmings John Castle Jane Birkin Verushka dir: Michelangelo Antonioni; MGM. The story of a mod London photographer who believes he has photographed a murder. Forever controversial and even hated particularly when first released it is Antonioni's comment on society particularly of the time and human nature. The film was made by MGM in the UK under a newly-created company called Premier Productions. Because this company had no agreement with the Production Code office as MGM did the frontal nudity and explicit scenes were allowed to remain in the film. Some of these nude scenes included the famous international models cast in the film. Hemmings' character also shot fashion photography with them. The best and sexiest photos from the film like this one were produced in the UK the film's country of origin as they were far too racy for use in the US back then. Still labeled ""BU-30"" features one of the most famous models of all time Peggy Moffitt. She immortalized herself in the 1960s as designer Rudi Gernreich's main model her Kabuki-style make-up and asymmetrical hair cut designed by Vidal Sassoon also helped. She appeared in twelve films between 1955-67. Creasing at top of still and at top and bottom right borders VERY GOOD-FINE. unknown books‎

‎No binding. Very Good. Photo Set of 2 vintage original 4 x 5"" 10 x 12 cm. black-and-white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photos USA. The iconic wedding gown which Helen Rose designed for Elizabeth Taylor for her first wedding lasted far longer than the marriage. It became the most requested bridal gown design throughout the decade and even today the basic gown is popular. At the time she was most popular with movie audiences wearing a similar gown for the MGM film FATHER OF THE BRIDE. This dress with its 22"" waist let out at some point from the original 20"" sold a few years ago at auction at Christie's London. Taylor was just 18 when she married Hilton the first of her 8 marriages. It last just 205 days with the 24-year-old Hilton. Though they had met each other in late 1949 they did not know each other well. Taylor divorced him on grounds of mental cruelty and though his family was wealthy she refused alimony and took back her maiden name. The wedding here took place on May 6 1950 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills. There were some 600 guests and enjoying the publicity MGM picked up the tab. These two original news photos are ink stamped on the verso ""For more of these pictures write WORLDWIDE 63 Central Ave Ossining New York."" ‎FAITHLESS 1932‎

‎No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 11 x 14"" 28 x 35 cm. lobby card USA. Tallulah Bankhead Robert Montgomery Hugh Hubert dir: Harry Beaumont; MGM. After a brief stint in silent films the theatre world was charmed by the voice and manner of Tallulah Bankhead; a return to film with talkies however did not bring her any further success. She starred in several soap opera melodramas this one for MGM plush with Deco furnishings and Adrian costumes. Neither MGM nor her character Carol Morgan seemed to be aware there was a depression on as she romped from man to man in this pre-Code melodrama. Today FAITHLESS is a camp classic -- and this rare card represents the playgirl before her walk down the primrose path. Beautiful color highlights this card featuring Hugh Herbert Tallulah and Robert Montgomery. There is a bend at the upper left corner a chip at the lower right corner a tiny tear on the blank white border at the upper right and a neatly mended 1"" 2.5 cm. tear starting at the blank white margin and into the black of the star credit box none of this is very serious and the card looks really nice VERY GOOD. unknown books‎

Paul Muni Luise Rainer Walter Connolly Tilly Losch Charley Grapewin Jessie Ralph dir: Sidney Franklin; MGM. Pearl S. Buck's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about the struggles of Chinese farmers was given a spectacular production by MGM which went on to win several Academy Awards including for Best Actress to Luise Rainer. In production for three years it would be Irving Thalberg's last credited production and would be released after his untimely death. Initially the studio wanted to film on location in China. The repressed Chinese national government at the time wanted this too but insisted on full censorial control which MGM refused. So the Chinese farmland was built on 500 acres in Chatsworth CA which at the time was open space. In still 730-140x we have Luise Rainer and Paul Muni on the location set. ‎No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 27 x 41"" 68 x 102 cm. one sheet poster USA. Tom Neal Jo Ann Sayers Arthur Hohl Truman Bradley Clem Bevans dir: Fred Zinnemann; MGM. MGM had their star-making process well-assembled by 1939 and this applied to directors as well as all other creative jobs at the studio. Up-and-coming directors cut their teeth on the short films which would fill out the bill for an evening in the theatre with newsreels cartoons and the feature. Academy Award-winning director Fred Zinnemann proved himself competent by making a long list of shorts between 1937 and 1942. Amongst the shorts series at MGM were the Crime Does Not Pay-series entries. This story concerned the corruption involved in exploiting unskilled labor. Tom Neal would spend years in shorts and playing supporting roles until 1945 when he landed the lead in the top noir Detour. He is the character at the right on the poster. Edward Sutherland Malcolm St. Clair dir: Walter Wright; Keystone Film Company. Very unusual art direction and costuming make this somewhat bizarre still from a Keystone comedy short charming. The film is most likely lost. Interestingly it featured two soon-to-be prominent film directors as actors Malcolm St. Clair as the Butler and A. Edward Sutherland as the Wealthy Maiden's Suitor. The wealthy maiden was played by Mary Thurman and the verso is stamped with her name above the title. She was a Mormon who came to Los Angeles with her family as a teen was discovered by Mack Sennett and became one of his original bathing beauties. Her career is largely forgotten as she died in 1925 at age 30 while filming in Florida. She is at center. Creases at all corners. ‎No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 36 x 14"" 90 x 35 cm. insert poster USA. Jean Harlow William Powell Myrna Loy Spencer Tracy Walter Connolly Charley Grapewin dir: Jack Conway; MGM. One of the finest screwball comedies of the 1930s. A most popular genre this time given the opulent MGM treatment with all-star cast Cedric Gibbons' art direction and Lawrence Weingarten as producer. When a false news story about a high society woman is hatched the newspaper man his jilted fiancé and his lawyer set out to make the story true before she can sue for libel. George Oppenheimer Howard Emmett Rogers and Maurine Watkins adapted the Wallace Sullivan story which was so popular that MGM resurrected it in a remake some ten years later. Poster was folded and it has now been paper-backed and cleaned. The folds have been lightly addressed. ‎No binding. Fine. Fine Art Print Vintage original 41 x 27"" 102 x 68 cm. one sheet poster USA. James Mason Shelley Winters Sue Lyon Peter Sellers Lois Maxwell dir: Stanley Kubrick; MGM. One of the most iconic movie posters of all-time. Very controversial was the novel by Vladimir Nabokov who did the adapted screenplay about a 40-something French literature professor and his obsession for the 12-year-old daughter of his landlady. Very controversial to this day is the film. The censors were after the script from day one and Lolita's age had to be raised to 14. In the end Kubrick un-credited actually wrote much of the script as presented on screen. Nevertheless it was Nabokov who received the Academy Award nomination for Best Writing - Screenplay based on material from another medium. This famous image of Sue Lyon as Lolita wearing the heart-shaped sunglasses is a portrait by Bert Stern. The image was used for publicity only; cat-eyed sunglasses were used in the film. Amongs those considered for and offered the role of Humbert were Marlon Brando David Niven Cary Grant and Errol Flynn who passed before production started. Amongs the other Lolita potentials were Joey Heatherton and Haley Mills; in both cases their well-known fathers vetoed the casting! Peter Sellers based his peculiar voice on that of Stanley Kubrick. Poster is folded and appears to be unused. There is only the minutest of edge and fold wear FINE. unknown books‎

‎No binding. Fine. Fine Art Print Vintage original 11 x 14"" 28 x 35 cm. lobby card USA. Greta Garbo Ramon Novarro Lionel Barrymore Lewis Stone Karen Morley dir: George Fitzmaurice; MGM. One of the finest and most legendary of the Greta Garbo films. Today just the images of Garbo in her role of the infamous German spy who ended up in front of a firing squad for her work are iconic. Even in the less restricted pre-Code days censors demanded cuts in the script and even in the finished film. Stills of Garbo in a see-through gown exist yet the scene is no longer in the film. So popular was the film and Garbo -- particularly in the foreign markets -- that MGM attempted to re-release the film in 1936 but was not given approval; they had to wait three years before the Hays Office would approve the re-release in 1939. ‎No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 11 x 14"" 28 x 35 cm. title lobby card USA. Mae Murray John Gilbert Roy D'Arcy Tully Marshall dir: Eric von Stroheim; MGM. A classic silent film and one of the best of the genre. Also one of the most notorious because of its tempestuous production. A prince must woo a wealthy widowed dancer in order to keep her money in the country. Based on the Franz Lehar operetta and trotted out twice more in later years by MGM the problems Stroheim caused in production particularly with star Murray whose temper was equal to his and with executive Irving Thalberg were such that this would be the last film he would direct for MGM. One of the most expensive and decadent films of the silent era and orgy scene had to be severely cut for censorship reasons. Shot in 1924 Joan Crawford and Clark Gable reportedly appeared as extras. The card has a large pin hole at the top left corner which has been reinforced with archival tape on the verso.
