Set of four vintage original 8 x 10" 20 x 25 cm double weight black-and-white photos all with mimeographed text on verso overall fine. Heitor Villa-Lobos 1887-1959 was the foremost South American classical composer of his generation. He came for the first time to Hollywood in 1958 to write the score for the film Green Mansions set in Brazilian jungles which starred Audrey Hepburn and was directed by her husband Mel Ferrer. Wikipedia One photo is a portrait of the composer; another includes him Hepburn and her pet Yorkshire terrier; another shows him seated at a gala dinner with Hepburn and two others; and the last shows the two of them she is helping light his cigar Ferrer and a few other dignitaries. Jacques Tourneur on left and Peter Smith on right face a supposed case of radium for the Oscar-nominated short film ROMANCE OF RADIUM. Tourneur had previously directed a few features in France in the early 1930s but he did not get to direct a feature in the US until two years after this film. Minor crease at top right corner near fine. Judy Garland at 15 displays a lovely smile for this portrait used to promote her move to star status. When MGM bought the rights to The Wizard of Oz in late 1937 it was bought to make Garland a star. In preparation for over a year before it went before the cameras Judy was rushed through three films. The first was a vehicle to move her from the character/juvenile classification to the star roster at MGM. Originally called The Ugly Duckling to which mother Billie Burke refers to in the script it was retitled Everybody Sing. Judy sang -- a lot -- but so did everyone else. As Oz was being prepared and she tested various hair costume and make-ups she finished this film as well as Love Finds Andy Hardy and Listen Darling. This portrait was used all through 1938 to promote those films. There is a date stamp on the verso of Nov. 28 1938. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer unknown

Hours were spent in the photography department where exquisite portraits such as this were made. Beautiful use of light and shadow in a portrait which though not stamped is likely by Clarence Bull. MARK OF THE VAMPIRE 1935 Photo archive
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. No binding. Near Fine. Los Angeles: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer 1935. Set of four vintage original black-and-white photos of which three are 8 x 10" 20 x 25 cm and one is 13 1/4 x 8 1/2" 34 x 21 cm. Overall near fine. MGM director Tod Browning remade his lost silent film London After Midnight 1927 into a sound film taking advantage of Bela Lugosi's earlier appearance in Dracula 1931. Mark of the Vampire features a twist ending and outstanding performances by Bela Lugosi as the sinister Count and Carroll Borland as his equally evil and enchanting daughter Luna. This collection features two impressive double weight matte photographs both stamped on the back and credited to MGM photographer Stephen McNulty. One photograph shows Lugosi with a fresh bullet wound on his forehead portraying Count Mora. Accompanying him are Carroll Borland as his vampiric daughter Luna along with Elizabeth Allen and Henry Wadsworth who play their victims. The second double weight photo captures a striking atmospheric shot of Borland gazing at the viewer while standing over the unconscious body of Wadsworth. Additionally there is one set reference photograph labeled "Int. Castle Hallway" and two photos that have been taped together on the back to form a single 13.5 x 8.5 in. set reference photo of the same set. The photo featuring Lugosi has a faint outline of a small paperclip along the upper border while the image of Borland and Wadsworth displays slight wear on its upper edge. The set reference photo is noted as a "Proof" with a number handwritten on the upper border. This is an exceptional collection of vintage original photographs from one of the few horror films produced by MGM in the 1930s. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer unknown

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. No binding. About Fine. Los Angeles: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer ca. 1943. Vintage original 8 x 10" 20 x 25 cm. black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photo. About fine. Typed printing on verso relates information about the operation of the MGM make-up department under the direction of William Tuttle who was with the studio for over thirty years. Tuttle would head the make-up department by the mid-1940s having started working there since the late-1930s. The process of making life masks -- where an actor's face was covered in plaster to make a mold -- was utilized for the purpose of creating make-ups prosthetics and hair pieces which would fit the actor. This image was taken most likely in late-1943 at which time MGM was preparing to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a film studio. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. No binding. About Fine. Los Angeles: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer 1943. Vintage original 8 x 10" 20 x 25 cm black-and-white double weight matte finish photo. About fine. In anticipation of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's 20th anniversary in 1944 a LIFE magazine photographer came to the studio in July or August 1943 and staged this group photo which included many of MGM's stars and contract players. Studio executive Louis B. Mayer is at front center. Amongst the top stars not present that day were Clark Gable serving with the Army Air Forces Lana Turner having a baby and Judy Garland on a war camp tour. Color images were also made and have been printed over the years for many MGM-related events. This with the original text on verso is an original 1943 release print. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer unknown

He would be joining Judy and gang on the train to sell war bonds all over the country as part of the Hollywood Cavalcade Tour.
