New York: Taplimger Publishing Company 1973. Book Club BCE/BOMC. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Type: Hardback Hardcover BCE Book in Very Good Condition with a Good Vintage Dust Jacket. b/w historic illustrations and maps. Bright red clean and unmarked full cloth with bright gilt titles to spine. A touch of wear to corner tips and spine heel edges. Binding is tight solid and square. Pages lightly toned in Fine condition. .The history of the Crimean War 1854-56. "Theirs not to reason why" was the song of the Laureate immortalizing the charge of the gallant Six Hundred a brigade of cavalry heading to destruction in the Balaclava Battle of 1854. It has been considered one of the greatest military follies in all military history. The author proceeds to demolish this consensus version of the War's history and notes that it succeeded in its major British aim of halting Russian expansion near the Black Sea. He postulates that the image of the campaign as badly managed by the Allies is an unwarranted generalization and explains why this is so. 216 pages indexed.
