Davis at the height of her star power presents herself with trademark cigarette and plenty of attitude in this unusual piece. Davis won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1935 and 1938 and would be nominated in 1939 1940 1941 and 1942 as well as for five other years. The classic 1960s action-crime thriller with an iconic performance by Steve McQueen playing the San Francisco cop who becomes obsessed with finding the underground leader responsible for the deaths of witnesses in his protection. Here is one of the finest and most rare posters for this classic title. This example does not appear to have ever been used. Prior to expert linen backing it showed only very minor shelf wear and shows just minor shelf wear such as three minor fold juncture separations a bit of creasing at the very edges and a few minor spots of soiling in the white background. What makes this poster particularly desirable is the fact that the colors match correctly although this poster does not turn up much -- when it occasionally does very often the bottom section has colors which are misaligned with the rest and that most often requires restoration with paint. This copy is unrestored with great nicely matched colors and all the very minor original issues have been attended to in conservation. The poster is now just about as clean and bright an example as possible FINE. 10000.00 unknown books

A much darker journey into the film noir realm for Bogart and Bacall than their early wildly successful BIG SLEEP this time from a lurid David Goodis novel of a man Bogart wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife rescued by a concerned courtroom spectator Bacall and who must change his notorious face through back-door plastic surgery in order to find the real killer. One of the truly great films of this now-revered genre as well as one of the best period films set in and depicting San Francisco. Bogart hid is face from camera for more than half of the film something which did not please WB head Jack Warner! The film fell off at the box office as it was released right at the time that the Bogart's received negative press because of their support for the Committee for the First Amendment during the heated House Un-American Activities Committee hearings. Beautiful rich color rare on this poster which has been mounted on linen. There has been just minimal fold and corner touch-up minor crease at bottom left corner and a few scuffs in white background addressed NEAR FINE. unknown books

In this tale he is tracking down serial killer Scorpio who snipes his victims at random. Clint Eastwood in his iconic role of the paradoxical Dirty Harry basically an outlaw but deeply moral at the same time only won the role because originally-cast Frank Sinatra injured his hand. One of the best poster images for this great film and one of the hardest to find with its life-size image of Harry holding up a gun. On linen. There has been a little touch-up along fold lines and to relieve a couple of marginal stains VERY GOOD-FINE. unknown books

Post-Production Code musical extravaganza was small on plot this time with a mother attempting to marry her daughter off to a millionaire while staying at a posh hotel -- but the film was huge in production numbers. These were some of Busby Berkeley's most sophisticated intricate and best. Amongst them were ""The Words Are In My Heart"" and the iconic ""Lullaby of Broadway."" By 1935 Warner Brothers had branded the ""Gold Digger"" franchise and the promotion was as spectacular as the films. Wonderful fun in these pages of exploitation production details and accessories. There are a variety of still campaigns articles including those on the previous Berkeley films song sheets novelties of Warner Brothers stars and posters for the film. A mystery tale about a group on a one-week Mediterranean cruise on a yacht in which the guests play a cruel game which revolves around each one's most embarrassing secrets being revealed. <br /><br />The object of the game is to discover everyone else's secrets while protecting their own. The secrets vary from "YOU ARE A HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER" to "YOU ARE A HOMOSEXUAL" to "YOU ARE AN ALCOHOLIC" and so on.<br /><br />Sondheim was already a very famous author of groundbreaking musicals. Brilliant tale of hostesses told with as much candor as post-Production Code Hollywood was allowed. Working girl Bette Davis displays herself in one of her most glamorous gowns on this fine Warner Brothers poster of the period. The beaded gown represented in red on this card was made for her by Orry-Kelly. This is the film which marked Bette Davis' return to Warner Brothers after she walked out on the studio fed up with the weak roles they were giving her. She got her wish in this role. Here she plays Mary Dwight the cynical world-weary hostess of a club run by gangsters. Living with the other hostesses of the club her kid sister comes to visit and the truth of their means of living must be hidden. The woman are constantly being hauled into headquarters and questioned about their bosses. Davis' character is beaten by them to keep quiet. But then her kid sister is murdered and she unravels to the district attorney Humphrey Bogart. A classic crime melodrama. Wonderful rich colors. Very minor creases. Tow tears at the right side of the card have been reinforced with archival tape. One is in the lower area of her hair and the other just below her arm. Pin holes at each of the four corners have been filled in and reinforced with archival tape. Two small tears at the bottom have also been reinforced with archival tape. No binding. Very Good. Fine Art Print Vintage original 22 x 28"" 55 x 70 cm. half sheet poster USA. Barbara Stanwyck Fred MacMurray dir: Roy Rowland; Warner Brothers. What a piece of 3-D graphic imagery this is with both Stanwyck and MacMurray bursting out of the screen! Stanwyck is presented far more seductively than her actual character for which she was blonde but that's what filmmakers felt it took to draw the audience into the theatre during this time when audiences started to stay home to take part in the new revolution: television. This was the third of four films Stanwyck and MacMurray teamed for -- their chemistry established with Double Indemnity nearly 10 years before. Though the Western was now exploring psychological themes the script offered little challenge to these great actors -- but the 3-D effects had entertainment value. The art is quite fun and the poster on linen is in fine condition. It does not appear to have been folded. A few tears were addressed including a very small one at the near bottom left edge and one inner tear above the ""n"" of ""Moonlighter"" in the title treatment and a small tear at the top of ""K"" in ""Stanwyck."" Having made his way from bits to supporting roles in A films he was for a bit of time given a crack at leads in B features. This is a textured linen card. After being nominated in 1934 and winning an Academy Award in 1935 Warner Brothers continued to cast Bette Davis in mediocre roles and films. So fed up was she that she sailed for England in 1936 after a suspension for refusing a role. Her intent was to work there; Warner stopped her and she sued. Though she lost the suit the studio did slowly secure better roles in finer productions over the course of 1937 and 1938. Given top production value and costuming Orry-Kelly this film is loosely based on Dashiell Hammett's THE MALTESE FALCON but this time the detective story is handled more as a comedy. What the film did for Davis at a time when she was being cast in heavy melodrama was give her a chance at playing comedy which she proved very adept. In a lighthearted moment Davis is seen with co-star Warren William. The photo is coded ""MH-111"". The borders are lightly trimmed for publication ABOUT FINE. unknown books

Very fastly-paced by expert director Walsh it told the story of Cody Jarrett a ruthless gang leader who has a mother fixation. The characters were based on real life criminals Ma Barker and her sons. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing Motion Picture to lady screenwriter Virginia Kellogg. Many consider James Cagney's performance his finest. Poster has been mounted on heavy paper. There is a crease to the top left corner. The top blank white border has had numerous touch-ups. There has also been touch-up to the fold lines corners portions of the bottom white margin and spots in the red background of the title treatment NEAR VERY GOOD. unknown books

Wonder Bar is the Paris entertainment bar owned by Al Wonder and he welcomes the audience in on camera and in the cinema audience to his establishment with a song ""Vive La France."" This performance at Jolson's insistence would be one of the last to be done live on camera with the Warner Brothers orchestra live on set portraying the club's band. The story involved a tragic love triangle which ended in murder -- a more lively script than standard musical faire of the day; still it was Busby Berkeley's wildly staged and edited production numbers which to this day are memorable. This included the number ""Don't Say Good-Night."" Released just prior to the code enforcement the film is full of illicit sex relationships homosexual references and getting away with murder. Today audiences may cringe at the now-politically incorrect production number ""Goin' to Heaven on a Mule"" which featured the Hall Johnson Choir. Witty and naughty audiences loved it and it made a nice profit for Warner Brothers. Paper-backed there has been some skillful but routine touch up to bottom margin and in the area of a couple of the small images of stars NEAR VERY GOOD. unknown books

So well did they get a long that they made this film soon after the story of a sly businessman on vacation who gains the confidence of his rival business' family members. Though it was a George Arliss vehicle this herald highlights Bette Davis and presents her as the ultimate cheese cake model -- a role which she played aptly but which was not a challenge for her vast talents which Warner Brothers a few years and many fights later allowed her to display in great roles. In the 12 images here Bette displays an array in the fashion parade. Pinholes and slight wear at the top and bottom corners of each page ABOUT FINE. unknown books

McGann Alan Crosland; Warner Brothers First National. From the Erle Stanley Gardner novel THE CASE OF THE CARETAKER'S CAT came this Perry Mason film entry. Mason is asked to come during dead of night to a mansion to write a granddaughter out of her invalid grandfather's will to keep her from marrying a man the family does not approve of. The old man mysteriously dies and his two grandsons inherit all. The will stipulates that they must keep the caretaker and his cat on the premises however and the cat is suddenly in danger. Perry moves in to discover the old man's death was not as it seemed. June Travis as Della Street and Ricardo Cortez as Perry Mason seem appropriately startled in a moment of mystery in this card. Veteran director Alan Crosland started making this film but died during production. Small repair to extreme blank top right corner overall NEAR FINE. unknown books

The film is also a notorious pre-Code film which Turner included in their recent ""Forbidden Hollywood"" campaign. Brilliant Art Deco lettering and collage art highlight this layout in which the image becomes part of the title treatment. The three top stars -- Young Cortez and Albertson -- are featured.
