Map of Winfield Township
Chicago: Warner & Beers 1874. 14 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. Very good condition. This is a map of one of the more important townships of Illinois. It is winfield Township home of Turner's Junction. The first railroad junction in Illinois. The town is now called West Chicago Il. The Galena & Chicago Union Railroad opened from Chicago to Turner in 1849 with the intent of going through Elgin on its way to Galena. The railroad only made it to Freeport. This sure the development of several branches. The Aurora Branch Railroad joined the Galena at Turner and became the first railroad junction in Illinois. This is shown on the map where the C&NW RR Galena & Chicago Union Railroad meets up with the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Aurora Branch Railroad.
