GOLD DIGGERS OF 1935 1935
Softcover/Paperback. Very Good. Book Vintage original 17 x 11"" 43 x 29 cm. pressbook; folio pictorial wrappers 24 pp. USA. Dick Powell Adolphe Menjou Gloria Stuart Alice Brady Hugh Herbert Glenda Farrell dir: Busby Berkeley; Warner Brothers. Post-Production Code musical extravaganza was small on plot this time with a mother attempting to marry her daughter off to a millionaire while staying at a posh hotel -- but the film was huge in production numbers. These were some of Busby Berkeley's most sophisticated intricate and best. Amongst them were ""The Words Are In My Heart"" and the iconic ""Lullaby of Broadway."" By 1935 Warner Brothers had branded the ""Gold Digger"" franchise and the promotion was as spectacular as the films. Wonderful fun in these pages of exploitation production details and accessories. There are a variety of still campaigns articles including those on the previous Berkeley films song sheets novelties of Warner Brothers stars and posters for the film. Gold foil cover in good condition there is tape along the binding edge and a crease at the top right corner. Pages are all in fine condition and fully intact ABOUT FINE. paperback books

Swasey Ambrose ; Warner Worcester R. owners of Warner & Swasey
A Few Astronomical Instruments
Cleveland Ohio: Warner & Swasey 1900. First Edition. Cloth. Good. First Edition. 2 36 leaves. 4to. 9 1/2 x 12 inches. Tan cloth with black embossed decoration and titling on the front board. Printed in black and white on recto only except for the title page the verso of which shows a view of the factory. Several tears and small blank chip in front flyleaf. Binding is very loose with the signatures detaching and in need of service. Evidence of ex-library status with spine lettering faded to illegibility ghosting on rear pastedown that indicates library pcoket etc. Front and rear flyleaf likely missing or the front glued down. Even withall the essence of the book remains which is a large format trade catalog and/or advertisement for Warner and Swasey highlighting their skill as craftsmen and engineers in this case in the field of astronomical instruments and their housings. Cloth. Ambrose Swasey 1846-1937 was an American mechanical engineer and inventor. With partner Worcester R. Warner he formed the company Warner & Swasey in Ohio. They are perhaps best known for their construction and installation of major telescopes and their mountings they built the Lick Observatory telescope mounting apparatus. The company was acquired in 1980 by Bendix Corporation. <br/><br/>"The number of leading observatories for which we have designed and made astronomical instruments affords us an opportunity to bring together a series of illustrations which we feel will not only be of general interest but also of service in showing the magnitude and completeness of modern astronomical equipment." <br/><br/>While noting the attempt to tell the current state of instruments we find a surprising number of views of building exteriors. In some cases the architects involved with the respective buildings are noted. Plate 1 shows the private observatory of the owners of the company both amateur astronomers and enthusiasts which perhaps accounts for their success in this field. <br/><br/>A useful historical document for those interested in the subject and/or restoration of existing equipment. Printed by Chasmar-Winchell Press New York and Pittsburg. <br/><br/>Not in Romaine or Davis and Dreyfuss. Warner & Swasey unknown books

The Ballad of Cable Hogue Original photograph from the set of the 1970 film
Burbank CA: Warner Brothers 1970. Vintage photograph from the 1970 film showing actors Stella Stevens and Jason Robards taking direction from Sam Peckinpah on the set. With holograph annotations regarding layout on the verso. <br/><br/>A charming surreal revisionist Western comedy an unusual move for Peckinpah as it was released on the heels of "The Wild Bunch" 1969 and just prior to "Straw Dogs" 1971 both famed for being the high spots of the director's famed odes to violence and male madness. Certainly though Jason Robards-in what many consider to be his finest performance-is as lost as any of Peckinpah's characters but viewed from a different more relaxed perspective. <br/> <br/>Set in Arizona shot on location in Nevada Arizona and New Mexico. <br/><br/>10 x 8 inches.
