Written by Reverend George Corless who refutes the comments made by Reverend Townsend as ignorant and bigoted. Disbound with loss of boards and the majority of the spine. George Crabbe 24 December 1754 3 February 1832 was an English poet and naturalist. The two works for which Crabbe became best known were The Village 1783 and The Borough 1810 both lengthy poems dealing with the way of life he had experienced. In 1783 he also married Sarah. In 1814 he became Rector of Trowbridge in Wiltshire where he remained. By the time of his death he was well regarded and a friend of William Wordsworth Sir Walter Scott and other major literary figures of the time. Complete in two volumes. In quarter diced bindings with marbled boards. Externally sound though rubbed. Some slight loss to paper on front board of volume II. Front joint of volume I starting but firm. An illustrated biography about King William IV documenting his successful reign and personal life written by George Wright. The first edition of this work. Complete in two volumes. William IV was only on the throne for seven years but managed to fill his reign with several reforms including updating the poor law restricting child labour and abolishing slavery in almost all the British Empire. This work was published in 1837 the year of his death the year that his niece Victoria succeeded to the throne. Written by George Newenham Wright an Irish writer and Anglican clergyman. He was also a teacher teaching classics in Windsor as well as taking pupils boarding in his house at Frome before becoming master at Tewkesbury Grammar School. He wrtoe mostly topographical and educational works such as 'A Guide to the Lakes of Killarney' 'Scenes in North Wales' and 'The Chinese Empire Illustrated'. With a frontispiece illustrated title page and twenty-four plates being an extra illustrated edition. Collated complete. In the original half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally smart. Light discolouration to the leather to the joints with patches of rubbing to the joints. Further light rubbing to the head and tail of the spine extremities and to the paper to the boards. Light marking to the boards. Front hinge of Volume I is strained whereas the front hinge of Volume II is starting but firm. Front endpaper and frontispiece of Volume I is detached but present. Internally Volume II is firmly bound and Volume I is generally firmly bound with the textblock from the title page to page 16 and 83 to 86 are working loose. Pages are bright with scattered spots spotting being significantly heavier to the plates. Tidemarks to the bottom and fore edge of the frontispiece to each volume being heavier to Volume II. On offer is the small yet interesting diary of Reverend Howard Dawson Hetrich sometimes Hetrick 1889-1953 SEE BIO NOTES AT END OF LISTING. At the time he kept this diary Hetrich was 32-years-old single living in Philadelphia working in sales and as a Pastor. He discusses his personal life only briefly. This diary is chock-full of short factual entries about his work life and religious occupation. At the back of the book he kept a detailed record of his earnings over the course of the year and even notes details like his income tax. His annual sales for 1921 to $8203. For a social historian this small diary gives a detailed look at how one young man earned a steady income and infused his life with his religious service in the heady days following WWI in America. BIO NOTES: Born in Schaefferstown Pennsylvania to Agnes Ream and Cyrus R Hetrich Howard Dawson Hetrich was baptised at St. Pauls United Church. He grew up and lived in Lebanon and Philadelphia PA. Hetrich served in the US Army as Pvt 1st Class in Company B 326 Field Signal Battalion. In 1926 Howard married Ardenia C. Ennis 1907-1976 and together they had three daughters: Mary 1928-2010 Ruth and Ardenia. Howard worked in sales and was also a Reverend who worked as a Pastor within the United Church. This small diary measures 4.75 inches by 3.0 inches. It contains 122 pages and is 100% complete. The cover and binding are loose but intact with some bumps and bruises due to age but overall good condition.
