Tasso, Torquato / Hoole, John [Tr.]
Jerusalem Delivered: An Heroic Poem. In Two Volumes [TWO VOLUME SET]. Translated from the Italian of Torquato Tasso by John Hoole. New Edition. With Notes.
TWO VOLUME SET. RARE English translation in heroic couplets of 'Jerusalem Delivered' - an epic poem by the legendary 16th-century Italian poet Torquato Tasso (1544-1595), best known for this poem (in Italian - 'Gerusalemme liberata', first published in 1581). The poem is a highly imaginative version of the combats between Christians and Muslims at the end of the First Crusade, during the Siege of Jerusalem. The translation is by the eminent English writer and translator John Hoole (1727-1803), best known for his translations of Torquato Tasso's 'Jerusalem Delivered', and Ariosto's 'Orlando Furioso', as well as other works from the Italian. He was also the author of 'Cleonice, a Tragedy' and two other dramas, which failed. This edition contains two elegant b&w engravings as frontispieces. [BOTH VOLUMES]: 170x105mm. [305] + [263] pages (+ 56 unpaginated index pages). Brown leather contemporary Hardcover. Gilt cover and spine. Text block edge and endpapers marbled. Cover and cover edge heavily rubbed and slightly worn. Cover corner bumped and peeling. Cover and spine stained. Spine wrinkled and partly peeling. Spine upper edge peeling. Previous owner's name written in ink written on whitepages. Whitepages age-stained. Pages yellowing. [VOL.I]: Small stain on text block fore edge. Sticker on front inner cover upper corner. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare and handsome edition of an exemplary English translation of an influential epic Renaissance poem is overall in good condition.

Tasso, Torquato:
( 4 BÄNDE ) Torquato Tasso's Befreites Jerusalem. Gerusalemme Liberata.
- Torquato Tasso (* 11. März 1544 in Sorrent; † 25. … (wiki)

Jerusalem in photographs from past to present.= Fotograflarla dünden bugüne Kudüs. Photographs (old); IRCICA archives. Photographs (new); Khaled Zaghari. Project managers; Halit Eren, Sefer Turan. This album was published within the framework of the 40th anniversary commemoration of the OIC, which has the problem of al-Quds and Palestine as its foremost cause. Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the OIC, wrote the Foreword. As he mentions, preservation of the multicultural character of the city with due respect of the populations and the shrines of each faith is an indispensable part of any acceptable solution of the problem. This character is well reflected in the authentic photographs in the album. Due to its special importance, al-Quds/Jerusalem was visited and described by many travelers. Then, the region became the first place of interest of the pioneer photographers. The Ottoman Palace was among the first in the world to acquire photographs of the region. The Yildiz photograph collection which was formed during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II contains a large number of them. The album contains the reproductions of 405 photographs gathered from IRCICA's archive comprising the Yildiz Photograph Albums and several other collections.
