‎Goldsmith S. 770. - Erste Ausgabe mit griechisch-lateinischem Paralleltext. Umfangreiche Kirchengeschichte des Byzantiners Socrates, eine Fortsetzung der Kirchengeschichte des Eusebius von Cäsarea. Enthält im Anhang die Schrift des Archelaos von Mesopotamien gegen die Manichäer. Socrates Scholastikos (* 380 in Konstantinopel, + nach 439 ebd.), spätantiker Kirchengeschichtsschreiber, die H.E. in sieben Büchern ist sein Hauptwerk, jedes der 7 Bücher deckt eine Regierungszeit eines oströmischen Kaisers ab. (Siehe: M. Wallraff, Göttingen 1997.) Die gute Kenntnis, die er über die Novatianer hatte, könnte ein Hinweis darauf sein, dass er selbst in gewissem Maße Anhänger der Lehre des Theologen Novatian war. Salamanes Hermeias Sozomenos (* in Gaza + um 450), bedeutender spätantiker, oströmischer Kirchenhistoriker. Seine Historia Ecclesiastica in 9 Büchern war dem Kaiser Theodosius II. gewidmet und stellte das gesamte Mittelalter hindurch für die Theologie eine wichtige Quelle dar. Zu "Valesius", Henry de Valois (1603 - 1676), siehe Enc. Brit. 11. Aufl., Bd. 27 S. 865. - Bis S. 78 mit kl.zunehmender und wieder abnehmender Wurmspur im Rand. ‎Connu pour son rôle dans l'élaboration du dogme christologique au Ve siècle et pour son opposition à Saint Cyrille d'Alexandrie, Théodoret de Cyr est une source indirecte importante pour les auteurs anciens. Il s'inspire ici de nombreux philosophies antiques, mais s'en sépare en faisant culminer l'oeuvre de la Providence dans l'Incarnation du Verbe. Etat satisfaisant (manque angulaire au second plat, coiffe sup. arasée, légère usure en coin sup. au derniers ff., bon état par ailleurs) pour cet édition ancienne, peu commune, qui constitua la dernière tentative de traduction française de ce texte avant celle d'Yvan Azéma en 1954. Prix en l'état.‎
