La religione è sempre stata nemica della libertà di pensiero ed è anche responsabile delle più grandi crudeltà del genere umano. L'uomo medio, avendo la coscienza stordita dall'illusione di Dio, si è sempre lasciato guidare da quelle persone che usano la fede come strumento di controllo. Dio è una credenza che appartiene ai fantasmi del passato, oggi l'uomo è più consapevole della realtà che lo circonda, ed è quindi in grado di liberarsi dall'illusione di essere figlio di un Dio. "Eresia" deriva dal termine greco "airesis" che significa "scelta", per cui l'eretico è colui che sceglie una strada diversa da quella indicata dalla cultura dominante, ed essere in grado di scegliere la propria strada in modo autonomo significa essere gli artefici del proprio destino e quindi dare un senso alla propria vita. Siate liberi pensatori, siate eretici...e andatene fieri!

An extra 19th century plate of the author Richard Bentley is also included after the dedication. Bound in modern half calf with marbled boards. Pages are generally clean; a faded name is written with small letters in an early hand on the title page upper corner; minor chipping to outer edge of title. All edges gilt. Richard Bentley 1662-1742 English scholar and literary critic. He was made keeper of the Royal Libraries and was later appointed Master of Trinity College Cambridge. In 1692 he was nominated first Boyle lecturer named after scientist Robert Boyle. He then delivered a series of sermons trying to refute Thomas Hobbes and atheism. In particular the lectures tried to show how the recent work in physics by Sir Isaac Newton offered proof of God�s existence. Bentley even corresponded with Newton on the subject. Originally the sermons were printed separately - several editions of each being issued. In 1693 the tracts were first collected together under the present title with separate paginations. Première édition et première traduction française, par l'abbé Louis-Valentin de Vougny, du dialogue publié à Londres en 1584, dont une seconde page de titre donne l'intitulé complet: 'Spaccio della bestia trionfante: la déroute ou l'expulsion de la Beste triomphante'. "Véritable subversion des fondements de la théologie chrétienne, sous la forme d'une fable mythologique, Giordano Bruno y développe les conséquences morales de sa conception d'un univers infini, dépourvu de centre et composé d'une infinité de mondes, et s'en prend aux dogmes de l'Éden ou du péché originel, réhabilitant ainsi la nature un siècle avant Spinoza" (Bertrand Levergeois). "Le 17 février 1600, l'Inquisition catholique menait Giordano Bruno au supplice. Lorsqu'une main lui tendit la croix, au milieu des flammes, il détourna la tête vers le firmament infini. Importante contribution de Ferdinand Buisson sur la laïcité et ses interprétations, tiré-à-part de la "Revue Politique et Parlementaire" (10 octobre 1903). Réfléchissant à la "crise de l’anticléricalisme", Buisson affirme que l’idéologie anticléricale ne doit pas faire oeuvre d’autoritarisme ni d’irréligion et rejoint sur ce point Georges Clemenceau. Il regrette que l'on puisse confondre cléricalisme et catholicisme, catholicisme et christianisme, christianisme et religion. Couverture défraîchie. Texte un peu fripé. Cachet.
