Jacob Abbott 1803-79 an American congregational minister and educator wrote the famous Rollo series of books Rollo at Work Rollo at Play etc. to teach his young readers specific moral values and concepts. In these travel books following the picturesque and educational experiences of Rollo and his uncle in narrative form the young reader is taken along as though he were an accompanying guest a lively format which helped to account for the books' immense popularity.
